Musings Episode 85: Ego…

Hope everyone’s had a great weekend.

Let’s just get right to it.

Musings Episode 85: Ego…

You’ll remember last week’s post where I talked about running in place, the two different sources of dissatisfaction, and a few other things.

You’ll also probably remember what I talked about the week before last, about guts over fear, and if you really want to do something, to just do it.

I think both of those topics have to do with concrete things.

But there’s something else that ties in with what people do in every day life, why they do it and how.

Come to think of it – it also ties in with what people don’t do in every day life, and why they don’t do it as well.

Ego.

There’s two key players in our brains – logic and creativity.

Some may argue that the two are separate, because they’re opposites. Logic is left brained while creativity dominates the right. The same could be said about emotion.

True, but while emotion and creativity are different from logic, they still support each other in certain functions.

Logic allows us to execute a systematic and structured plan of action to carry out our creative thoughts.

Picking up the paint brush, holding it a certain way, mixing certain colours, dry time of the canvas, layering, etc, etc. The same goes for photography.

Logic can also allow us to step away from an emotional situation and take an objective look at why that emotion is being felt in that situation.

Creativity can allow us to create something useful, something functional, with aesthetic appeal, or a “fun” element to it.

Emotion allows us to put the human back into humanity when logic fails to acknowledge when emotion is needed to maintain rationality, and vice versa.

So if logic and emotion, or logic and creativity can be interdependent on each other, lend to each other, and at the same time can be considered vastly different qualities that can be separated from each other, why then, don’t people apply this to a fundamental part of their lives – their careers?

What about their relationshipsPersonal development?

I could go on, but the point I’m trying to make here is, in today’s society it’s important to remember that you’re not what you do.

You’re not your job.

You’re not your job title.

You’re not your role in your relationship. You are responsible for how well your relationship goes, as is the other person.

You’re not the car you buy.

You're not your fucking khakis, tyler durden, fight club, fight club quotes, tyler durden quotes, brad pitt quotes, rego's life quotes, brad pitt, Musings Episode 85 Ego, Rego's Life, Musings Episode 85 Ego Rego's Life, Rego's Life Musings Episode 85 Ego, Ego, how to overcome ego, get over your ego, big ego, what is ego, what does ego mean, how big is your ego, ego quotes, episodic musings, quintessential entrepreneur, episodic musings of a quintessential entrepreneur, positive progress, how to be genuine, how to know when peope are genuine, fight club, tyler durden, you're not your fucking khakis, fight club 1999, how to understand yourself, will smith are people fanning your flames, are people fanning your flames will smith, how to tell if people are really your friends, how to tell if your friends are real, how to tell when someone is lying, how to tell when someone's lying

You’re you.

While it’s great to have all that, remember who and what you are, without all of it.

You’re this living, breathing organism, that like a Final Fantasy (RPG) game character just keeps leveling up – maybe getting a new weapon here, or some new armour there, or some new skills here, or better health there, or new party members here, and so on and so on.

You gain the weapons and the armor from money earned at each battle, but you gain the better health, skills, and other things from experience points.

You’re a living being that (hopefully) progressively changes as you gain experience with new, different, experiences, constantly getting to know yourself better.

Experiences and situations are accessories that you choose to take on or confront in your life.

So why not separate yourself from all that other stuff – the job, the car, the house, the fucking material?

Ego.

Ego is a very abstract thing. Logically you can’t define it, it’s pretty difficult to pin down.

Fuck what religion, or spirituality, or all of that stuff says.

I think those types of things can still taint or manipulate the message of what ego really is for their own benefit, which I’ll explain towards the end of this.

I’m not saying I have a perfect definition for it either, but I will say this: people today, not that they haven’t been before, but even more so today, with the advancements of technology, and the comfort of convenience, which has ultimately lead to a false perception of self-reliance, are running wild with their egos.

Your ego tells you you are your job.

Your job title.

Your ego tells you you are the only person in the household who gets things done.

Your ego tells you you are lower, middle, upper, and elite class.

Hell, society tells you you’re all that too.

Society tells you if you drive this car you’re this. If you wear this, you’re that. If you live in this neigbourhood, you’re this.

Society also has a tendency to try and dictate to you what you aren’t, as well.

It goes both ways, too.

While people who identify themselves as rich may assume someone who doesn’t drive a Bentley isn’t financially savvy or educated, people who identify as poor may look at someone who’s educated or well off as being “soft,” never having experienced hardship.

Society itself, is a collection of egos, communicating to other egos – your ego.

The Personal Ego Already Has A Strong Element Of Dysfunction But The Collective Ego Is Frequently Even More Dysfunctional To The Point Of Absolute Insanity Eckhart Tolle, ego quotes, Eckhart Tolle quotes, Rego's Life quotes, Eckhart Tolle, suicide squad wallpaper, the joker wallpaper, suicide squad joker wallpaper, Musings Episode 85 Ego, Rego's Life, Musings Episode 85 Ego Rego's Life, Rego's Life Musings Episode 85 Ego, Ego, how to overcome ego, get over your ego, big ego, what is ego, what does ego mean, how big is your ego, ego quotes, episodic musings, quintessential entrepreneur, episodic musings of a quintessential entrepreneur, positive progress, how to be genuine, how to know when peope are genuine, fight club, tyler durden, you're not your fucking khakis, fight club 1999, how to understand yourself, will smith are people fanning your flames, are people fanning your flames will smith, how to tell if people are really your friends, how to tell if your friends are real, how to tell when someone is lying, how to tell when someone's lying

Attempting to tell you what you should have, what you shouldn’t, what you do deserve, what you don’t, what you have done, what you haven’t, what you have been through, what you haven’t, what you should be watching, doing, saying, BEING.

The most popular stuff is shoved in front of your face everyday on Facebook, Netflix, Instagram, cable TV, Twitter, the news, shop windows, magazines, movies, on and on and on and on…

But if you strip all the “accessories” away, what are you?

Who are you?

Do you really know what you like?

What you want?

What you want to do?

What you’ve done?

Without anybody telling you, have you made these decisions yourself?

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again.

What you do, is not who you are. What you’ve done is simply a history, a timeline, of how far you’ve realised your own potential and pushed your own limits.

Mediocrity never was, and never should be an intended destiny for a species as intelligent as the human race.

Your only competition is the version of yourself you were yesterday – so don’t let others measure you with their own limiting beliefs – know your worth.

We have free will. Free will to do or to not do something. Free will to cooperate with each other.

People’s egos run wild when they try to do this to other people.

Telling them WHAT they are, rather than asking.

Telling them WHERE they should be, rather than letting them just…be.

Acting like they’re helping someone, only to gain mileage for themselves later.

Trying to hold someone back when they see them positively progressing forward, because they’re not happy with their own progress.

That’s ego.

I’m not this blog.

Not the places I’ve been.

Not the work I’ve done.

Nor the entreprenurial pursuits.

Not the photos I’ve taken.

Not the people I’ve dated.

Nor the friends I have.

I’ve enjoyed all those things and still do – but they’re all a part of my life – they’re not me.

I’m a living, breathing, organism, who’s amassed knowledge, feelings, experience, and an understanding of myself from things I’ve chosen to turn my attention to.

I’m just one big makeup of energy, choosing to expend myself on whatever I feel is right on a day-to-day basis, and recharging at night.

The same way I don’t let just anybody drive my car, I don’t let just anything drain my energy – or time.

I prefer to expend energy into things that’ll exchange that same positive energy.

But this is the important part.

I’m not talking about this bullshit, “you are what you think about most, always go around being nice to people” stuff.

Because this is what most people leave out:

There are a shit ton of people out there who can “act” nice to each other.

It doesn’t mean they’re genuine.

It doesn’t mean they want to see you do good – or even better than them, for that matter.

Will said something very interesting along the lines of this a while ago, have a listen:

But what people have to realise is, no one is doing better than anyone else.

You’re just doing you. If you weren’t in their life, what would they have to measure themselves with? Someone else? What if no one was in their life?

You can’t possibly be “doing better” than anyone else, if everyone has their own personal goals and milestones.

So what do you care if you help someone out when they’re earnestly looking to become a better version of themselves?

You’re not what you do, but you’re not alone.

Cooperation is vital to human survival. Cooperation is just an exchange of good energies.

So check your ego at the door.

Have a sense of who you are at your core.

Don’t be a dick.

Be cordial (be nice).

Be genuine.

Lift up the people you call your friends, family, lovers, and others who are looking to do a little good in the world.

Look for others who do the same.

And don’t fuck with people who do any of the negative stuff you just read about.

For The Weekenders: Lion King Lodges, Subway Station Parties, Cast Away Escapades…

There are a lot of great places to explore out there.

A lot.

So why limit yourself to your side of the world?

It’s time to get…unconventional.

For The Weekenders: Lion King Lodges, Subway Station Parties, Cast Away Escapades…

I used to be a fan of Lion King (don’t judge), when I was a kid.

The wild life, wide open spaces, and the thought of “no worries” was very appealing at such a tender age.

I watched the movie and enjoyed spending hours of my day playing the video game on Sega with a friend (and by “playing” I mean us impatiently and quietly hoping one of us would kill off our character in hopes of our turn coming around quicker).

Back in the day, this was the shit…also our equivalent of 1080p quality (if you think this is bad, imagine FIFA).

So naturally, when I discovered there was a luxury lodge in Botswana where you could get up close and personal with lions, zebras, and cheetahs, I was very much:

Qorokwe Camp promises to deliver this, and more.

Fun fact: “Qorokwe” means “the place where the buffalo broke through the bush into the water.”

You can use that to sound interesting, cultured, and suave when you’re convincing your play mate to go with you on the trip.

You’re welcome.

This is the perfect opportunity to get away from all the “busyness” of urban society, while at the same time letting that special someone know that yes, while you may be brilliant at business, money, and knowing how to make more of said money, you’re not just some boring numbers person and you do like to sometimes live dangerously.

Across 62,692 acres there’s more wildlife than you can shake a stick at, inlcuding a lion pride made up of just over a dozen lions, allowing you to step into the Lion King story – but without all the family dysfunction, treachery, and betrayal (hint: don’t invite Uncle Carl this time).

This is a representation of the circle of life, Simba. The circle of life is way more fucked up than you think, little one.

You’ve got two choices for accommodation – a family tent suite with its own pool, or a regular tent suite, not as big, but just as nice. So if you’re the family type, obviously opt for the former…but if you’re here for a sneaky, on-emergency-call-only get together, the latter will do just fine, as you’ll probably spend more time running around the other facilities they have, thanking the architect (and landscape architect) for mixing nature with artistry.

After going for your morning swim and having some breakfast, if you’re feeling adventurous, the camp is far from being in short supply of adventurous things to do.

For the less-adventurous-vegan-mocha-ugg-boot-triple-latte types, there’s bird watching, nature walks, and plonking yourself in a dugout canoe while being…boated around to look at the surrounding wildlife.

Guide, to self: “I am getting damn tired of haulin’ these heavy ass-…” Tourist: “Isn’t that zebra BEAUTIFUL?!?!” Guide: “Uh, YES. Bedazzling, even.”

But for the braver among us, there are night drives. The perfect time to see those “I wear my sunglasses at night” type creatures that normally shy away during daylight hours.

This means it’s also the perfect time for those *rustle in the bush* “EEK! What was that?” *more rustling* “nothing, don’t worry, just…nestle right in here – you’ll be safe” moments.

If you lost your phone in this area, good luck going back for it.

See where the wild things are, what they are, and how very much the opposite of assumed “shithole” countries they’re in.

If the call of the wild isn’t your thing, and you instead feel like settling for the “safer” (pfft…lame.) containment of the city, then this next one is for you.

Bar hopping can get pretty boring. Boring for you, boring for your friends, boring for your date.

So when your sexy someone slips into the passenger’s seat of your car with a look of “where-are-we-headed-tonight-and-it-better-be-good” you have two options:

  1. Proceed to piss her off more with a look of “I don’t know”.
  2. Ask her what she’d like to do already having a general idea of what her scene is and what she’s into…only to surprise her by saying you’ve decided it’ll be more fun to party in a subway station.

If you went with option 2, now would be a good time to catch her before she hits you with her bag and stomps off…and assure her that no, it’s not the subway station party that involves Four Loko and partying with vagabonds.

It’s this kind.

Far less sketchy, far more artistic, Station1640 in L.A. is the mystical unicorn kind of a place that you can take a date to for an experience of a dance club, art gallery, and bar rolled into one.

I’m not kidding.

The graffiti is literally done by artists – these aren’t your cheap, poorly spelled “fuk u” dick drawing street tags you see the city constantly trying to cover up. You’ll be looking at works of art from people like Obey Giant, David Flores, and King Cre8, to name a few.

This is no place to go sticking gum on the walls.

Refined but nonetheless somewhere you can let your hair down, so to speak (or get her to let hers down), it reminds me a bit of Ageha and those professional male and female pole dancers (professional being a severe understatement).

They’ve got mixologists as opposed to bartenders – and if you know anything about drinking, there is a vast difference between the two. The former is the “say no more fam” while the latter is more “…so you want vodka, is that what you’re saying?” when you ask for a drink that involves setting an ingredient or two on fire.

If you really like the place, you can book it for private hire and invite as many people as it can handle…but just remember you’ve booked it, not bought it, so while you’ve grown quite fond of it no, it’s not yours to keep and you eventually will have to let the regular people have their fun.

This is one time a good thing must sadly, come to an end.

If you like the feeling of running things though, and haven’t satisfied your appetite just yet, I’ve got something bigger for you.

Yes, bigger.

If booking a club isn’t enough for you, you can always just book an island.

Land ahoy.

There are two types of escapades.

One that’s secret and fun, which only you and a select few friends know about.

And the other, that’s considered “shenanigans” and gets leaked to the media (depending on your level of importance – in your case, maybe not so much), turning into a…fiasco.

Either way, both are the type that with Calala Island in Nicaragua, can run along the lines of “what happens in Calala Island, stays in Calala Island”.

And with Carlos. Carlos knows what’s up (but he ain’t no snitch).

It’s so remote you’ll need to charter a flight to Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (In Managua), before (preferably) getting a chopper ride over to the island.

Better bring some friends. Including yourself and that special someone Calala accommodates 8, with 4 beachfront suites and about two rugby teams worth of staff to handle your every need (though I can’t promise they’ll help with your personal life – you’ll need a therapist for that).

Whatever you want to do, the staff will tailor things according to your wants. This is no cookie cutter holiday.

Someone Told Me Something That Stuck With Me you Have To Envision Your Life And Then Go Backwards I've Been Living By That Motto For A While So I See Where I Need To Be Now I'm Just Backtracking And Trying To Get Back Up There Bruno Mars, Bruno Mars quotes, Rego's Life quotes, Bruno Mars, Musings Episode 84 Running in Place, Rego's Life Musings Episode 84 Running in Place, Musings Episode 84 Running in Place Rego's Life, Rego's Life, regoslife, episodic musings, episodic musings of a quintessential entrepreneur, don't live the same day twice, rat race, entrepreneur, living one day in 70 years, living 70 days in one year, pros and cons of being an entrepreneur, running your own business, pros and cons of having a business, dissatisfaction, tired, routine, schedule, day in day out, job vs business, truth about being an entrepreneur

You’ll remember last week’s episodic musing where I talked about having guts over fear and just getting whatever it is you want to move forward with or start done.

Reason being is because it’s better to start something than to just entertain the thought and never start at all.

Some of you may already be doing this, and that’s good.

Others may still be on the fence.

There’s two types of running in place. I think one of them is more frustrating than the other, but they can both be a thorn in one’s side.

The first, is keeping everything in your life the same.

Living “one day in seventy years,” my great uncle used to say.

This is how most people are.

You have a job, a routine. You wake up, get ready for work, grab a quick breakfast, go to work, have a drink with friends, come back home, watch TV, go to bed, wash, rinse, repeat.

Some have families and do a similar cycle.

I call this the hamster wheel, or rat race type running in place.

You complain, but never get annoyed enough to slip out of your comfort zone and make change.

Growth Is Painful Change Is Painful But Nothing Is As Painful As Staying Stuck Where You Do Not Belong N R Narayana Murthy, Rego's Life quotes, N R Narayana Murthy quotes, N R Narayana Murthy, Musings Episode 84 Running in Place, Rego's Life Musings Episode 84 Running in Place, Musings Episode 84 Running in Place Rego's Life, Rego's Life, regoslife, episodic musings, episodic musings of a quintessential entrepreneur, don't live the same day twice, rat race, entrepreneur, living one day in 70 years, living 70 days in one year, pros and cons of being an entrepreneur, running your own business, pros and cons of having a business, dissatisfaction, tired, routine, schedule, day in day out, job vs business, truth about being an entrepreneur

Then you have the second type of running in place.

Or perhaps, it’s a perceived running in place.

The kind where you’ve already started towards something you want to get accomplished, but it feels like you’re going nowhere.

Maybe this is self-perceived. Maybe you’re your own worst critic.

You get a lot accomplished, cover a lot of road, but somehow, at least in your mind, things feel stuck. The speedometer is stuck on slow and no matter how hard you press your foot to the pedal the damn thing won’t go any faster.

You have a schedule, unlike a routine, and things change and progress from day to day, but it never seems to move fast enough.

There’s a similarity with both.

I think this is the side of entrepreneurship that no one really does a hard sell on.

The side most would rather have you not know about.

The side you’ve got to deal with after the motivation and excitement have long passed.

When you’re working a business, there’ll be times you never really feel satisfied with what you’re doing – in the sense that you never really feel satisfied with what you’re accomplishing.

People may feel the same way when it comes to a job, but there’s a difference.

The similarities in the two are just purely the dissatisfaction.

But the key difference is the source of dissatisfaction.

In the context of a job, someone could be dissatisfied with their pay, their boss, their work hours, or the higher ups not taking notice of their work.

In the context of a business, someone could be dissatisfied with the effort they’re putting in, their oversight on an idea they come up with later, their inability to turn into Superman and work around the clock with zero sleep.

I think the former is a dissatisfaction that centers around other people and their approval of a person.

While the latter is a dissatisfaction that centers around yourself and your approval of yourself.

There’s a certain drive that separates entrepreneurs from desk jockeys. Something that separates entrepreneurs from the pack.

Management in companies want this drive in each and everyone of their employees.

The job advert that screams “we want entrepreneurial minded people! Driven people! Motivated people!”

Yet they fail to realise that in the context of a company, that’s a double edged sword.

You’ll have people that have drive, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be submissive and obedient.

You can’t have someone driven and submissive. They’re opposite qualities.

It’s where sayings like “sheep get slaughtered and wolves eat” come from.

You may get certain people that are sheep masquerading as wolves, but it only lasts for so long – until they’re willing to crush someone else’s throat to appease their “boss,” in hopes of climbing the corporate ladder.

So really, their sheep masquerading as wolves, but really coyotes in their nature.

When you come across a real wolf, you’re really just playing with fire.

Both types, sheep and wolves, have hopes and dreams. Both start out as motivated and driven. Both take different paths when it comes to progression.

It’s only one that’s easy to control with smoke screens and carrot on a stick incentives.

The feeling of running in place may happen with both, but here’s a message to the entrepreneur:

You’re building your dream. Not some manager’s. Not an executive board’s. Not a company’s. Yours.

Learn to be objective with yourself. Take a step back and look at the progress you’ve made. Use timelines if you have to.

By doing this you’ll realise just how much you’ve moved forward – and if you haven’t moved forward, well then you’ll realise just how much more you should be putting in.

It’s a weird thing to have to deal with. Businesses are like a watched pot. It never boils until you take your eyes off it and step away.

Then sometimes you come back and realise it’s boiling over or you’ve let all the water boil out.

There’s a delicate balance to be maintained.

Step away, then come back.

When you’re in a car, going 90 mph doesn’t seem like a lot.

But when you’re watching from the side of the track, that same car going 90 mph seems like it’s zooming past you.

Learn to be in the driver’s seat and on the sidelines sometimes.

It’ll make things feel a lot less like you’re running in place.

As always…

Stay awesome.

For The Weekenders: Cashmere Nights, Bali Penthouses, Japan By Rail – 007 Style…

Though I normally don’t delve into politics in this blog, I will take the opportunity to tie them into this week’s For The Weekenders post.

Considering all the shittiness that’s ensued and been encouraged since last year due to either apathy or just pure hatred (read: stupidity), sometimes the more sensible among us just need to travel to other lands to remind ourselves that no, the entire world isn’t like that and yes, politicians are not exempt from being considered, or just being for that matter – ‘bat shit crazy’.

Here’s a few places to put the human back into humanity and nurture back into…nature.

For The Weekenders:
Cashmere Nights, Bali Penthouses, Japan By Rail – 007 Style…

Winter.

One of those seasons where all you want is hot chocolate, hot saunas, and hot people to wrap your arms around because, “baby, it’s cold outside“.

Wait for it…there’s a girl version too (…don’tgettriggered…)

Yes indeed, the perfect time for appreciating all the cozy comforts in life. Fireplaces, plush sofas, and cashmere covers.

Speaking of – if there’s one thing I like more than cashmere cardigans and pullovers – it’s cashmere covers. Il Fieniletto delivers just that, and more, near Alta Badia in the Dolomite mountains of Italy.

This 9 bedroom, 9 bath villa is the perfect excuse for when you need a break from it all. Grab some friends (up to 17 of them) and a play date, charter a flight over, and from there go wild. If you have no clue where to start, here’s an idea…

Take the day off and make sure you’re on emergency call only. “Emergency” being defined as an alien invasion, earth’s sudden teleportation to another galaxy, or your great, great grandma’s untimely passing (knowing full well, she already has).

Charter a flight with AeroPrivateJet – try the Bombardier Global 7000, or perhaps the Embraer Legacy 650E (you’ll have to cut 5 friends from the group with this one). Grab your bags, some cash, and your special someone before meeting up with your friends and hopping on board.

Them: “So…so are private jets our thing now?” You: “…did you not grasp that from the context?”

Land at Venice Marco Polo Airport and take in the sights for a couple of days, before venturing out to Cortina (where your private, freshly rented villa Il Fieniletto is).

You’ll have a lot of rooms to choose from. A lot. I recommend bedroom #3 on the ground floor, or bedroom #2 on the upper level in the Mansarda (which is really just a fancy way of saying “attic” – but don’t worry, this attic is fancy).

Whichever room you choose, all of the bedrooms have sexy, cozy, cashmere (or fur) covers atop of sexy, cool linen bedding, for you to rest your (hopefully) sexy, athletic bodies.

Athleticism is important. Because after all, you’re in a ski resort area – so I’d like to assume you’ll be skiing snowboarding.

There’s also an elevator (or, “lift”), so you don’t have to worry about carrying your special someone’s luggage up or down a set of stairs (good help is so hard to find these days).

Speaking of help, there’s a live-in cleaner, cook, and wonderful little butler available at your beck and call (just don’t ring any bells at them – I am beyond confident you will get slapped).

One of the three can take care of some shopping for you if you feel like being lazy, or if you’re in the middle of impressing that date you brought along as you shred out some romantic song on the ukulele you packed.

The villa can have certain sections of it closed off, to ensure privacy for those intimate moments, or when you just don’t feel like hearing the chatter of everyone that you invited.

When you feel like relaxing to take the edge off from the jet lag, shuffle down to the lower level of Il Fieniletto and indulge in the heated pool, sauna, or hydro-massage options available.

Once you get sick of being inside and need some fresh air, explore the surrounding area. If you still don’t know where to start, pick up a few Dolomiti SuperSki passes, so you no longer have an excuse to be bored (who needs Swiss alps when you have Italian?).

You’ll have access to the Sella Ronda ski tour, which when done correctly turns into a 2 day activity…well worthy of a cocktail party story, or at least a custom-made coffee table book.

But let’s say you’ve already satisfied that winter sports urge. Or let’s just say you’re not a fan of cold weather.

Then Bali is your next choice – but if you’re going to Bali, you better do it right, because dammit it’s Bali.

If you’re a fun in the sun, surf and sand, fall asleep after a good swim type of person, Como Uma Canggu is probably more your taste. So here’s how it can go down…

You’ll charter a flight from wherever you are to Ngurah Rai International Airport. Then it’s a 60-minute car ride from there to Uma Canggu, which Como can arrange for you, if you’re feeling lazy.

Or, see if you can shave those numbers down with a helicopter ride, if you’re feeling impatient.

You’ll also book the accommodation of your choice.

You’ve got a fair few options…but my guess is the first thing that’ll pique your curiosity is the penthouse – there’s 12 of them, and they don’t disappoint.

With 3 bedrooms, a living room, ocean views for miles from your own balcony, and an outdoor rooftop pool, you’ll feel like you’re in a home away from home when your bags hit the floor.

Each penthouse comes with it’s own wonderful butler who can make your stay more comfortable, rain showers, and a wireless surround sound system so you can play this across the place when you’re having your morning coffee as you stare out at the breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean…

…coffee in one hand, arm around a sexy someone in the other.

If you’re not feeling as elaborate, or feel like doing things yourself without the help of your own private butler, opt for the Uma Pool Residences or a suite instead. They’ve got plenty to offer and are just as comfortable. I recommend the Batu Mejan Suite.

Obviously you won’t want to be stuck inside all day (or do you?) so you’ll have to figure out what to do outside of your suite penthouse.

After some coffee and breakfast, you’ll wanna start things off right.

If you’ve been hitting the gym pretty hard, now’s a good time to use that as an excuse and go for a Balinese Spice Body Mask, and refresh those tired muscles.

No, it’s not just for women or the modern gay man. Muscles get tired and hey, last time I checked, you’re no Clark Kent.

Once you’re all loosened up, book a surfing excursion with a private guide and hang ten. You’ll be able to check out Bali’s best spots for some good waves with a private car hire for about 10 hours.

After a long day of surfing, you’ll probably be ready to wind down and grab some more food.

While I could suggest you check out the Como Beach Club, I’d say now’s the perfect time to do some exploring yourself – have a stroll around the local area and see what’s good.

If you’ve brought friends along, head back to your penthouse and live it up with some late night swimming, drinks, 24 hour room service, and your own private party, while rocking out.

My guess is, you’ll be staying here a couple of days so feel free to check out what else they’ve got available and go from there. There’s really no wrong answer here.

If you’re not into villas or penthouses though, don’t worry. There’s something for everyone in this For The Weekenders.

Maybe you’re one of those people who always feel more comfortable being perpetually on the road.

Or tracks.

Your choice.

If you’re up for feeling a little like James Bond in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, or Spectre (that man’s been on a lot of trains), and so happen to be a train enthusiast, then Train Suite Shiki-Shima is for you.

Ahh…Japan.

It’s the one place for me, where travelling by rail is comfortable and memorable.

And let’s be honest – nothing’s more memorable than having your own deluxe suite in a train that’s built like a hotel on…rail wheels.

So this is what you’ll do…

Book a 4-day, 3-night trip for this year.

This thing sells out fast so plan for the future, amigo.

Hop a jet to Narita International Airport. Let’s throw a little healthy competition in the mix – try out Apollo Jets this time. Then grab a private car (or if you’re feeling like regular people, and really a train enthusiast, a fast train) into Tokyo.

All you really need are your bags and a play date – the rest is taken care of. Make your way to Ueno Station, because this is where you’ll be departing.

Lounge for a bit at Prologue Shiki-Shima – a wonderful thing of a place that gives you a taste of what the train ride will be like before boarding.

Then prepare yourself for the epic journey that follows through the north-eastern region of Japan. Epic is an understatement.

Better bring your best DSLR/SLR, because you’ll have the chance to capture plenty of memorable shots when visiting the plethora of different stations, checking out unique to Japan accommodation, and trying some serious local cuisine from both on and off the train.

Like this Inn tucked away in a forest, at Zaborin.

Even with all that, travelling by train may get a little tiring. When going from station to station, you may want to relax a bit.

So opt for either the Shiki-Shima or Deluxe Suites. There’s something about your own Japanese soaking tub or fireplace that just makes the experience that much more desirable.

Once you’re refreshed and ready, feel free to saunter over to the observatory car, before heading to the lounge after a nice meal on board, while waiting for your arrival at the next station.

Travelling by train just got easier.

As always…

Stay awesome.

Just a little mid-week inspiration.

While I mentioned in this week’s episodic musing about just going for it, you’ve also got to realize if along the road you make a mistake, it’s smart to improvise if it’s the right or practical thing to do.

Don’t let your ego get the best of you and be stubborn. If you’re working towards something, you won’t do everything perfectly. Admit the mistake, suck it up, and move on.

You only fail if you don’t learn lessons from your mistakes.

Musings Episode 83: Guts Over Fear…

Well, happy new year (…add exclamation mark here).

I’ve been away for a while working on some things but I’m hoping everyone had a good Christmas and their new year was off to more than a good start.

I also hope everyone didn’t make any new year’s resolutions.

Why?

Good question…

Musings Episode 83: Guts Over Fear…

For the past few weeks now while picking up my daily necessities, I’ve had to endure the cringiness of various store marketing ads blaring over their speakers talk of new year’s resolutions and “getting fit” – while eloquently lacing in why you need that new yoga mat.

New Year’s resolutions are really just excuses to not actually apply yourself to anything.

They’re the unsaid safety net of “new year, new you” and if you don’t get it done then hey, that’s okay champ, at least you tried. Maybe next year, eh?

Not.

If you’re going to do something in life…just fucking do it.

You guys have been reading my blog for quite some time now.

You get the general trend of what I sound off on.

Dreams only come true if they’re goals with a deadline. Mediocrity shouldn’t be the intended destiny for the human race. If you’re going to live a little do it up big and enjoy.

I’ve been beating the same drum for a while now, with no intention to stop – because it needs to be said.

The victim mentality, like a subtle, slow bacteria sometimes feels like it’s spreading across society, with so many ridiculous contradictions.

You “can’t make time out of your daily work life to do something for yourself that’ll help you grow as a person because you’re always so busy”?

That’s okay, you’re working hard to build someone else’s dream – it’s totally cool, I get it.

Keep binge watching that Netflix after work.

It’ll take the edge off.

I’m not saying that relaxing is a bad thing – but they say these days, your average person spends 4 hours looking at screens – that’s *outside* of work.

That’s a lot of screen time. Half a workday to be precise. You could do a lot with that time. So why aren’t you?

Look, everyone, and I do mean everyone, has at some point in their life had a dream. Most have also encountered an obstacle.

The biggest obstacle I find people wrestle with is fear. The fear of starting. The fear of starting only to fail. The fear of starting, succeeding, and then having things crumble.

I’m not faultless – this includes me.

But like a fear of a big, scary new workout plan (or big, scary new place you’re moving to), ultimately it’s a fear that it’d be better to deal with than shove under the rug.

Do what you fear – don’t fear what you do.

You’ve gotta have guts over fear. Ever seen the music video of Eminem‘s song “Guts Over Fear”?

I’m not a huge fan of his music, but that music video is a perfect depiction of guts over fear.

I know when it comes to starting anything new there’s the headache and questions of “How am I going to get it done? When am I going to get it done? Can I GET it done?”

But nothing will ever get done if you don’t apply yourself to it – and applying yourself isn’t enough.

Once the motivation is gone, that’s when you have to keep pushing through.

It’s fairly ironic how some people don’t grasp this concept.

They’ll start a new job (motivation), work that job, some days dislike that job (motivation lost), then keep going to that job even when they’re no longer motivated.

…but then won’t maintain that same course of tenacity when it comes to enhancing something they want to do for themselves that’ll help them grow outside of that exact same job.

“But I need MONEY!”

Bro – I know.

But you’ve gotta flex that muscle.

I’m not just preaching here – I apply my own sermon.

As someone who at one point in life was holding down 3 jobs, hitting the gym, and growing as an entrepreneur – I. KNOW.

It can be scary as fuck sometimes.

Sometimes you’ll be happy.

Sometimes you’ll be mad.

But you’ve gotta hold it down and just keep going.

This is for the dreamers that dream while they’re awake rather than asleep.

If you haven’t started, start.

If you’ve started, don’t stop.

If you’ve reached where you want to be and want to innovate more, stay your course and go for it.

All the way, guts over fear – but just fucking do it.

Since I’ve been into discovering new music a lot lately, here’s one song that’s appropriate for this post by Neffex – enjoy.

As always…

Stay awesome.

Hope everyone’s week is off to a great start. I remember talking to someone about options that a person has in every aspect of their life a while back…which pretty much inspired this week’s episodic musing. Let’s get started.

Musings Episode 82: Options

We Must Dare To Think Unthinkable Thoughts We Must Learn To Explore All The Options And Possibilities That Confront Us In A Complex And Rapidly Changing World J William Fulbright, Rego's Life, J William Fulbright quotes, Rego's Life quotes, J William Fulbright, Musings Episode 82 Options, Rego's Life, Musings Episode 82 Options Rego's Life, Rego's Life Musings Episode 82 Options, Options, life options, options quotes, how to assess your options, remember you have options, life choices, lifestyle, know you have options

I’d say in today’s time we live in a world of choice – lots of it. Largely on a consumer level, but on other levels too. There’s so many different forms of education, career choices, leisure time options, and ways of getting out and socialising that you’ll have people say the amount of options is overwhelming.

I’d say that’s bull.

Then, there are some who may feel like they don’t have any options.

That’s also bull.

True, there are an abundance of options out there, but if you’ve got focus, the options available hardly seem overwhelming and if anything, you can easily filter out the fluff.

When you think about it, the amount of options you have can actually help you have a better understanding of what it is you want out of life, in all aspects of life. Even feeling like you have no options at some point in life can force you to realise the options you do have, if you stay calm and think.

This is where focus comes in. The main thing is to use that focus to stay on track with whatever it is you want to accomplish.

Filtering is easy, but staying on track can sometimes be tricky – largely because it relies on consistency. As an entrepreneurial minded person I can attest to this.

I could have a number of ideas pop up in my head a week that seem like great business ideas. Where it gets tricky is staying consistent – sometimes it’s tempting to move on all of them at one time rather than planning things out methodically, or knocking out one at a time.

Thinking of so many ideas can open you up to so many options, even outside the entrepreneurial realm.

And having options means having access to different tools that can help you move any part of your life forward.

Knowledge creates options, and options are kind of like guide books that teach you which way you can use the tools you’ve uncovered through assessing your options.

The higher the level of people's perceived self-efficacy the wider the range of career options they seriously consider the greater their interest in them and the better they prepare themselves educationally for the occupational pursuits they choose Albert Bandura, Rego's Life, Albert Bandura quotes, Rego's Life quotes, Albert Bandura, Albert Bandura Options, Musings Episode 82 Options, Rego's Life, Musings Episode 82 Options Rego's Life, Rego's Life Musings Episode 82 Options, Options, life options, options quotes, how to assess your options, remember you have options, life choices, lifestyle, know you have options

If you’re from my generation, maybe you were taught that you could be anything when you were younger – and maybe you were taught to pick a safe career option as you got older.

This was always a confusing trend of thought to me. You’re told you can be anything (including Spider-Man) when you’re younger – but as you get older, family/society tells you to “think about your future” and “pick a safe career choice”? Something like a lawyer, doctor, etc?

Forget wanting to be top athlete or pro skateboarder, and opt for a nice, quiet office job?

While I know the above “safe” options can in theory of course be smart (and sometimes recession proof), it’s the line of thinking that’s a contradiction.

I mean I can see where (most) parents are coming from – they want their kids to have stability, not lack for anything, and a financially stress-free life so they can actually enjoy the years that pass by.

But I think always opting for the safe option can be self-sabotaging.

This is where I think a hybrid approach works best.

There’s some partial truth that there are obvious benefits to choosing a “safe” career – but only if you know what type of benefits you’re talking about.

I think if a person feels more comfortable going with a safe option – with anything in life – it’s better to only use it as a tool to get where you really want to go – to enable you to do what you really want to do.

I tell people Do what you love but it can also be hard to know what you love early on But when you think about it and you describe the options which one gets you a little more excited Brad D Smith, Rego's Life, Brad D Smith quotes, Rego's Life quotes, Brad D Smith, Brad D Smith options, Musings Episode 82 Options, Rego's Life, Musings Episode 82 Options Rego's Life, Rego's Life Musings Episode 82 Options, Options, life options, options quotes, how to assess your options, remember you have options, life choices, lifestyle, know you have options

In the context of business, picking a safe option really just means picking an option that gives you a steady source of cash flow over the required length of time it’s needed.

But it’s what you do with that cash flow that matters.

One thing I’ve learnt about being an entrepreneur – if you want to move anything forward, even outside of business, most of the time it takes cash flow, and time.

This can be with a hobby, travelling, a relationship, anything.

I really don’t get why people try and separate money from the equation when it comes to a lot of things they do in life.

If you want to learn how to play guitar, you’ve gotta first buy the guitar.

If you want to pursue a relationship, you’ve still gotta have the cash to meet up with the person – whether you’re driving or using public transportation. Even if you’re walking, if you wanna go and grab a bite (or make a bite to eat) it still takes cash.

Hell, even if you want to get in better shape you’ve gotta have the cash to eat properly.

There’s an interesting quote I’m fond of…

Money is only a vehicle that provides you with options and I say there's only one thing that money can't buy poverty Jerry Doyle, Rego's Life, Jerry Doyle quotes, Rego's Life quotes, Jerry Doyle, Musings Episode 82 Options, Rego's Life, Musings Episode 82 Options Rego's Life, Rego's Life Musings Episode 82 Options, Options, life options, options quotes, how to assess your options, remember you have options, life choices, lifestyle, know you have options, Jerry Doyle options

Now this blog post isn’t to talk about money – but I can say that money, like knowledge, can give you more options.

And I can say that it’s important to realise that everyone, and I do mean everyone, has options.

The main thing is, you’ve got to pick what options are right for YOU.

Only you.

Nobody else can or should feel like they can dictate to you what your options are. It’s your life, you’ve got to live it, and you’ve got to deal with the results that the options you pick give you.

At the end of the day, you’ve got to do what feels right for you.

Choose your options wisely. Choose how to use your tools wisely.

Just for fun I’m gonna leave you with one of my favourite songs this year:
