Musings Episode 91: Rest, But Don’t Quit…

Well…last week was really something. Little hectic but nonetheless skidded through unscathed.

Which is kind of the premise of this post.

Let’s get started.

There’s a lot of awesome things to do in life.

Come to think of it, there’s a lot of things to do in general in life.

People pick and choose what they’ll do on a day-to-day basis according to what they deem important enough to prioritize.

They pick what forms of entertainment they choose to invest in, what lifestyle they choose to have.

They choose what keeps them busy, and what they have free time for.

I’ve mentioned it before – there’s a culture of busyness that’s been growing that I’m not entirely for.

Work-life balance being thrown off kilter and status symbols being made out of “who has the least amount of time”.

Companies overworking people, utilizing what they ever so affectionately call their “human resources“.

People putting aside what’s important to them, to build someone else’s dream.

There’s an ethos that’s developed when you workout, or get into fitness.

I don’t mean superficial fitness.

I mean mental mettle, it’s still your set, last rep is the hardest, left shaking workouts.

It’s an ethos you develop for yourself, and yourself only – which eventually bleeds into other areas of your life.

You set goals, or milestones…and by setting those milestones, you demand accountability from yourself when it comes to sticking to them.

You learn to prioritize yourself, to know your worth…to assert your value.

It teaches you that if you can push yourself to the limits for others, you can push yourself to the limits for yourself.

So why not do it?

But that’s not what I’m getting at here.

It also teaches you to know when to rest.

To take time out for yourself to recover, when everything seems like it’s building up.

“Rest if you must, but don’t you quit,” is the motto.

Every workout, someone always gets tired.

But you never stop when you’re tired – you stop when you’ve completed everything you’ve laid out to do.

Never quit It is the easiest cop-out in the world Set a goal and don't quit until you attain it When you do attain it set another goal and don't quit until you reach it Never quit Bear Bryant, never quit quotes, Rego's Life quotes, Bear Bryant quotes, Bear Bryant, Musings Episode 91 Rest But Don't Quit, Rego's Life Musings Episode 91 Rest But Don't Quit, Musings Episode 91 Rest But Don't Quit Rego's Life, Rego's Life, regos life, regoslife, musings, episodic musings of a quintessential entrepreneur, rest if you must but don't you quit, rest if you must but don't you quit quote, go after what you want, you don't stop when you're tired you stop when you're done, don't finish when you're tired finish when you're done, how to accomplish your goals, how to set goals, never quit quotes, everyone gets tired, work-life balance

You rest in-between if you have to – like going for 12 reps on a weight where you can only bang out 8 with strict form – sure, you rest-pause until you get those last 4 reps out, never dropping the bar…

But you never quit.

The same goes for life.

If you have things that you want to accomplish or get done, there’s nothing wrong with being a little tired.

Everyone gets tired.

But it’s what you do after you become tired.

Don’t just fold, never finishing what you started.

Rest, recover, and keep going until you’re done.

This is a point you train yourself to get to long after the motivation’s disappeared.

It’s not always a happy place to be.

There’s times when you’ll get fed up, pissed off, frustrated, and feel like you’re moving at a snail’s rate.

But don’t ever quit.

The minute you quit going after something you want for yourself is the minute you’ve chosen to take your life, your free will…and put it in someone else’s hands.

Rest if you must, re-position yourself if you make mistakes…but don’t quit.

Success seems to be connected with action Successful people keep moving They make mistakes but they don't quit Conrad Hilton, don't quit quotes, Conrad Hilton quotes, Rego's Life quotes, Conrad Hilton, Musings Episode 91 Rest But Don't Quit, Rego's Life Musings Episode 91 Rest But Don't Quit, Musings Episode 91 Rest But Don't Quit Rego's Life, Rego's Life, regos life, regoslife, musings, episodic musings of a quintessential entrepreneur, rest if you must but don't you quit, rest if you must but don't you quit quote, go after what you want, you don't stop when you're tired you stop when you're done, don't finish when you're tired finish when you're done, how to accomplish your goals, how to set goals, never quit quotes, everyone gets tired, work-life balance

Musings Episode 88: Priorities…

Enjoying your weekend?

Good.

Looking forward to your week?

I hope so.

Let’s start.

Musings Episode 88: Priorities…

We all prioritize things in life.

Priorities are what separates getting some things done faster than other things.

It doesn’t matter if it’s business, relationships, friends, family, or anything else.

The more convenience gets brought into our world the more it seems that multi-tasking is becoming a demand…a requirement…a mandatory skill.

Multi-tasking is good for some things – at least so they say – but only temporarily.

Often the thing that’s done well is one that has an entire focus placed upon it.

You can multi-task and get a lot of things done at one time – but how well did you do them?

Could they have been done better?

I’ve been told I’m my worst critic sometimes.

The irony of being a perfectionist.

Asking if things can be done better is a question that floats in the back of my thoughts on a day-to-day basis.

Like the concept of kaizen, I constantly look for different ways to do things better.

It’s the needle that keeps me on course when navigating through this thing we call life.

I think we all need that.

That guiding compass.

I Learned That We Can Do Anything But We Can't Do Everything At Least Not At The Same Time So Think Of Your Priorities Not In Terms Of What Activities You Do But When You Do Them Timing Is Everything Dan Millman, Dan Millman quotes, priorities quotes, Rego's Life quotes, Rego's Life, Musings Episode 88 Priorities, Rego's Life Musings Episode 88 Priorities, Musings Episode 88 Priorities Rego's Life, Rego's Life, priorities, how to prioritize, learn to prioritize, prioritize, priority, life priorities, put yourself first, how to put yourself first, healthy selfishness, learn to put yourself first, how to prioritise, why is it important to prioritize, know what's important, what's important in life, prioritize your life, what's the meaning of life, what is the meaning of life, living life, live life for you, living life for yourself, musings, episodic musings of a quintessential entrepreneur

Not to be dictated by someone else, but something you establish for yourself.

Everyone’s compass is different.

I’ve also been told I’m a mentor.

Though I’ve never really seen myself as one.

I just like to see people awoken to the fact that their life is theirs to live – not someone else’s.

Your life decisions are what you take to the grave with you.

So why let someone else dictate what you should be doing, especially if it’s for the betterment of yourself?

Prioritizing is simply putting what you think – what you know – is important, first.

So many people prioritize their jobs, their boss, their significant other before themselves.

Side note: There’s nothing wrong with prioritizing and nourishing romantic relationships – but if you’re going to, I think it’s imperative to make sure that person is lifting you up, rather than having you stall out or pulling you down.

Interdependence, not dependence is key in relationships.

If you don’t prioritize yourself when it comes to certain things, things that in your gut you know you should be doing for yourself but aren’t, I really think you stunt your own growth as a person.

Humming and hawing over something rather than just doing it only sets you that much further apart from what it is you want to do.

Why on earth would you do that?

I’m not faultless.

I’m just another person navigating my ship through this thing we call life.

The more we learn about these rough seas, the more skilled we become – the better we learn to handle our ship – but we’re never faultless.

I recognize there is one persistent thing in my life I haven’t prioritized…always thinking it could wait until later.

Maybe it can, maybe it can’t…but it does leave me with that gnawing feeling that I should really be prioritizing it more than I am now.

Especially now.

A feeling that grows by the day until I push it aside at times, and act on getting it rolling other times.

It’s a journey for everyone – but should make a victim out of no one.

So don’t take this as a “it’s okay, at least you’re trying/tried but there’s nothing more you can do” message.

When it comes to setting priorities in your life, there is absolutely something you can do. Any action is better than no action.

Framing your day-to-day life to put yourself first is important – because if you’re a mess, how can you possibly help others?

Taking the time out to prioritize what it is you know you need and want to do leaves you with a clearer head.

It lets your thoughts flow, your creativity flow, your overall thinking process flow, much, much better than what it usually would.

Before the complete change over to digital TV and radio, there was analog. Whenever you changed channels, sometimes you’d encounter “static”.

I’m sure some of you remember what that static used to sound like – or even the white noise from a TV.

Not as distracting as buffering, but still annoying.

Even though you hear what it is you’re wanting to listen to or watch, there’s still that static in the background that you just can’t seem to ignore.

Things you’re not paying attention to but you know you should be prioritizing are a lot like that.

So start clearing the “static” from your head.

Take time out. Grab a pen and paper – not your phone. It’s something about putting words on paper that really makes you connect with what it is you’re thinking about.

Write down some things you’ve been wanting to do for a while but haven’t because you’re always putting other people or things first.

Then write down one you can do immediately, or want to do first, on a separate piece of paper.

When you get that first thing done, tear up the paper and bin it.

Then do that for the next one.

And the next one.

And so on.

Tossing the paper will make you feel like you’ve released yourself from something because you took action to get it done.

A little healthy selfishness is necessary.

Prioritizing helps eliminate the habit of creating problems as to why you can’t get certain things done.

Starting towards something is better than always saying “some day”.

Because really…

…someday is really just code for “never”.

Stay cool.

Musings: Quote Wednesdays…

Just a little mid-week inspiration.

While I mentioned in this week’s episodic musing about just going for it, you’ve also got to realize if along the road you make a mistake, it’s smart to improvise if it’s the right or practical thing to do.

Don’t let your ego get the best of you and be stubborn. If you’re working towards something, you won’t do everything perfectly. Admit the mistake, suck it up, and move on.

You only fail if you don’t learn lessons from your mistakes.

Hope everyone’s having a great week.

As always…

Musings Episode 83: Guts Over Fear…

Well, happy new year (…add exclamation mark here).

I’ve been away for a while working on some things but I’m hoping everyone had a good Christmas and their new year was off to more than a good start.

I also hope everyone didn’t make any new year’s resolutions.

Why?

Good question…

Musings Episode 83: Guts Over Fear…

Creating problems is easy We do it all the time Finding solutions ones that last and produce good results requires guts and care Henry Rollins, Henry Rollins quotes, rego's life quotes, guts over fear quotes, Rego's Life, Henry Rollins, Musings Episode 83 Guts over Fear, Rego's Life, Rego's Life Musings Episode 83 Guts over Fear, Musings Episode 83 Guts over Fear Rego's Life, Guts Over Fear, Rego's Life Musings Episode 83, Musings, episodic musings of a quintessential entrepreneur, quintessential entrepreneur, just do it, overcome fear, how to overcome fear, fearless, have some guts, guts over fear eminem, eminem, guts over fear, life, neffex, neffex nightmare, guts over fear quotes

For the past few weeks now while picking up my daily necessities, I’ve had to endure the cringiness of various store marketing ads blaring over their speakers talk of new year’s resolutions and “getting fit” – while eloquently lacing in why you need that new yoga mat.

New Year’s resolutions are really just excuses to not actually apply yourself to anything.

They’re the unsaid safety net of “new year, new you” and if you don’t get it done then hey, that’s okay champ, at least you tried. Maybe next year, eh?

Not.

If you’re going to do something in life…just fucking do it.

You guys have been reading my blog for quite some time now.

You get the general trend of what I sound off on.

Dreams only come true if they’re goals with a deadline. Mediocrity shouldn’t be the intended destiny for the human race. If you’re going to live a little do it up big and enjoy.

I’ve been beating the same drum for a while now, with no intention to stop – because it needs to be said.

The victim mentality, like a subtle, slow bacteria sometimes feels like it’s spreading across society, with so many ridiculous contradictions.

You “can’t make time out of your daily work life to do something for yourself that’ll help you grow as a person because you’re always so busy”?

That’s okay, you’re working hard to build someone else’s dream – it’s totally cool, I get it.

Keep binge watching that Netflix after work.

It’ll take the edge off.

I’m not saying that relaxing is a bad thing – but they say these days, your average person spends 4 hours looking at screens – that’s *outside* of work.

That’s a lot of screen time. Half a workday to be precise. You could do a lot with that time. So why aren’t you?

Look, everyone, and I do mean everyone, has at some point in their life had a dream. Most have also encountered an obstacle.

The biggest obstacle I find people wrestle with is fear. The fear of starting. The fear of starting only to fail. The fear of starting, succeeding, and then having things crumble.

I’m not faultless – this includes me.

But like a fear of a big, scary new workout plan (or big, scary new place you’re moving to), ultimately it’s a fear that it’d be better to deal with than shove under the rug.

Do what you fear – don’t fear what you do.

You’ve gotta have guts over fear. Ever seen the music video of Eminem‘s song “Guts Over Fear”?

I’m not a huge fan of his music, but that music video is a perfect depiction of guts over fear.

I know when it comes to starting anything new there’s the headache and questions of “How am I going to get it done? When am I going to get it done? Can I GET it done?”

But nothing will ever get done if you don’t apply yourself to it – and applying yourself isn’t enough.

Once the motivation is gone, that’s when you have to keep pushing through.

It’s fairly ironic how some people don’t grasp this concept.

They’ll start a new job (motivation), work that job, some days dislike that job (motivation lost), then keep going to that job even when they’re no longer motivated.

…but then won’t maintain that same course of tenacity when it comes to enhancing something they want to do for themselves that’ll help them grow outside of that exact same job.

“But I need MONEY!”

Bro – I know.

But you’ve gotta flex that muscle.

I’m not just preaching here – I apply my own sermon.

As someone who at one point in life was holding down 3 jobs, hitting the gym, and growing as an entrepreneur – I. KNOW.

It can be scary as fuck sometimes.

Sometimes you’ll be happy.

Sometimes you’ll be mad.

But you’ve gotta hold it down and just keep going.

This is for the dreamers that dream while they’re awake rather than asleep.

If you haven’t started, start.

If you’ve started, don’t stop.

If you’ve reached where you want to be and want to innovate more, stay your course and go for it.

All the way, guts over fear – but just fucking do it.

Since I’ve been into discovering new music a lot lately, here’s one song that’s appropriate for this post by Neffex – enjoy.

As always…

Stay awesome.
