Musings Episode 31: Lost…

Over the past few days I’ve been feeling a little lost…

More or less today, in fact. I get like this sometimes – these bouts of no direction.

Then again, everyone has a tendency to get like this.

It’s not a bad thing – in fact, it can be beneficial.

The lost feeling I usually have is a combination of various factors.

The bouts of no direction, when I think about them are akin to being out at sea.

It’s times like these I feel the need to head to the beach – go for a swim, and just go with the current.

Low tide, high tide.

Weak current, strong current.

Calm before the storm.

Chop and swells post rain.

I just go into the water, and let the ocean pull me either way it’s going.

The less you fight the water, the more freeing it is.

The less you fight the water, the more you become it.

Respect the ocean, and she respects you.

Feel lost, and she’ll make you feel found again.

Diving into the swell with my eyes open and swimming underwater until I see fit to come up, that feeling of the water is like a warm embrace of a hug or blanket on a cold morning.

It calms me – it brings me back to my center. It reminds me that when I feel lost – I can always find myself again – if I just don’t resist – if I just go with it.

Alright….enough poetics. I wanna share with you guys the benefits of feeling lost sometimes – take what you read next and really study it – or as they so fondly used to say back at uni “do some critical thinking.” Within it, you may find answers…on finding yourself.

So usually, times like these I have a tendency to “disappear.” When I was a kid (pre-teens through teens) – and still oftentimes present day – people defined me most often in two ways – ghost and slick. The former, well, as I said earlier because I have a tendency to just “disappear,” then pop back up when I’m good and ready. The latter – well, that’s another story. Apparently it has something to do with “good with words” and “charisma.”

Albeit my tendencies to disappear, instead I left the beach and hopped on my laptop, wanting to share with you guys (and ladies) some insight into this whole thing.

Feeling, and being lost can be good. As you learn to take the time and start discovering who you are, through mental training and quiet moments you have (or make) throughout the day – it’s a feeling that can become quite natural.

Many times it’s good to just go with it – let yourself wander, let yourself clear and filter your mind of mental chatter and stressful thoughts – allow yourself to zone out. Keep in mind, I’m not talking about waddling or dwelling in the negative. I’m talking about navigating through your mental highways like you would if you went for a long drive to clear your head.

I’m saying if you feel like you have no direction some days – make the time to get lost in that feeling of no direction – and find your center. Do every and any activity that seems calming or de-stressing to you. The same way a husband can zone out his wife – do the same with any stressful thoughts you have…and just focus on you.

As you learn to execute this properly, the feeling of being lost can easily turn from cumbersome – to euphoric and blissful. Take full advantage of it – it’s your mind doing a mental “detox” – many just focus on physical detox – but with that comes both mental, and spiritual – spiritual as in energy. At some point, you’ve gotta do all 3.

Why get lost in being lost? Because – there’s so much benefit to it. It’s not something that can necessarily be explained outright, set in concrete, with an end all-be-all example – you just have to know it.

The best way to explain it is this –

When you’re feeling lost and you finally embrace it – you’ll know you’ve embraced it, when at the very center of you – right above your solar plexus (which is slightly above your belly button) you feel calm…and at peace. You feel comfortable. Warm. Fuzzy. Relaxed. Ready to take charge – but ready to lounge. Ready to lunge – but ready to relax. Fired up – but steady and stable.

When you get to this point – you’re one step closer to discovering and unlocking your real self.

Maybe this post makes sense to you, maybe it doesn’t. Bottom line is, being lost, isn’t always a negative – but in fact an opportunity to find yourself. Musings Episode 30: Success…

So this Episodic Musing is officially my 30th…

…and I’ve gotta say, I’m quite happy. I started this blog in the beginning of the year for fun and to share with people my thoughts and philosophies on lifestyle – and it’s gotten pretty big.

Ergo I thought the appropriate topic to touch on in this post would be Success. I know I’ve talked about it before, but I’ve never really made one concentrated article on it.

Now’s the time to do so.

Success is everything you want, an automatic request on your desire list, and something you push towards every single day of your natural life without even realizing it.

At times, many people may think that success is only measured by large accomplishment – when really, it can be as simple as a few small achievements a day. The question is – what is it that you consider an achievement?

Everyone has their own “scale” – this “scale” is something in which they measure themselves by. Some people build their scale off of other people’s scales, which can often be detrimental to their own success.

Comparing yourself against others will get you nowhere. I’d just like to tell you that now. You can have a figure or someone to look up to and admire their achievements – but never, EVER peg yourself against someone else’s own success scale.

I mentioned in a coaching session on my official site how the only person you should be in competition with is yourself – that’s the only person you should be up against, and the only person you should be comparing your milestones to.

By competing against yourself, it gives you a chance to create your own path and find goals you’d like to set for yourself – and no one else. Many people who wish they could have the same achievements some of their “idols” have accomplished hurt themselves by following the same path their idols take – this isn’t building YOUR success – this is living in someone’s shadow.

…and if you’re somebody and wanna be an even greater somebody, the last thing you want is to live in someone else’s shadow.

Einstein once said:

…and I wholeheartedly agree. This brings me to my next point – in doing the same thing, you’re gonna get same results.

Really, when you think about it – what’s a job?

Really. Think about it.

Unless it’s in a creative field, many jobs are going into a building or going to a place and doing the same thing, day in, day out.

You get the steady paycheck.

You get the steady time.

You meet the same people.

You do this over, and over, and over again.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

As my great uncle used to say –

“You live one day, in 70 years, or 70 years in one day.”

A job – living one day in 70 years.

That’s so fucking boring.

You trade hours for dollars.

I believe in trading ideas for millions.

I believe in living 70 years in a single day.

Which sounds better?

I’ll take the latter any day.

Ideas that are acted upon stimulate the brain, and force you to think creatively until it comes naturally to you.

That’s a mini milestone to success.

Action, action, action – innovation, innovation, innovation.

That’s success.

Reaching into your own head.

Grabbing your own ideas that truly make you happy.

Acting upon said ideas with no holding back.

This is when you really start being, doing, and achieving what you’re really meant to.

Wait a minute.

I’m not saying go out there and quit your job tomorrow – no, not at all. You’re not pinning me for saying that.

What I am saying is, while you’re at that job making that steady cash that takes care of the bills, stop bullshitting around with the rest of the money and buying new furniture when you just bought some 2 years ago.

Stop impulse buying shit that’s just gonna collect in your garage.

Stop being on autopilot.

I’m not saying stop spending and start budgeting – god no. I’m saying if you wanna spend, take the time out to think on what you really wanna spend on.

But don’t just do that either – start thinking of ways you can get off that hamster wheel you’ve been on for Christ knows how long, and start acting on ideas while you’re still at your job. Make time to do it.

I understand many of you want stability, that comfortable feeling of knowing your needs are met – but take it a step further and think about your needs being met and not having to worry about waiting for the special thing you wanna buy or having to buy it on credit because you don’t have the money at the moment.

Think about the feeling of choosing to buy shit on credit and knowing you have the money to pay for it tomorrow if you want.

Stop doing the same old day in, day out routine. If you can’t do that just yet – then do the same routine when it comes to your job or self run one-man-band business, and take the time to think up new ways to get yourself out of the current, hamster wheel, never ending cycle type autopilot and into a different kind of auto pilot.

I’m talking automated income.

I’m talking money you only dreamed of making in a year you can make in half that time – or even a month.

Stop doing the same old, same old because it’s comfortable, and start thinking – then act on that thinking.

That’s success.

Musings Episode 29: Lifestyle…

Alright so…as you all know, my blog mainly focuses on lifestyle enhancements. But lately a lot of what I’ve been finding is, when you Google how to improve your lifestyle, or getting more from your money to enjoy life, most people talk about just being frugal, money conscious, or maintaining a dreaded “budget”…..damn I don’t like that word. Not in the slightest.

The question is….why? Why is it that lifestyle is associated with money? Well, for one – money is the modern day bartering system. So alright, fair enough there…

…but why is it that people believe that money is what limits them? I believe in splurging and living practically – the best of both worlds. I’ve been blasted before because of this – many stating that method of thinking is easier said then done – but if you really look at how society is taught to utilize money, you’ll realize it’s not about budgeting, or clipping coupons, or getting that no-frills flight for a discounted ticket rate.

It’s about the way you look at money….and the way many are taught to look at money is a very weird way. I know I keep banging this into your head but as a whole, people are taught to be consumers. Now I’m not saying consumerism is bad, not at all. But the way in which you’re taught to be a consumer, may be detrimental to the way you’re also taught to achieve your real desires, and real goals.

There’s a saying – Americans live to work – Europeans work to live.

What is living? It’s a definition custom tailored to each and every individuals concepts and goals. Yet still, as a majority, people are mostly taught what living is – not to define and teach themselves what it is.

Learning can be done two ways – the lazy way, or the easy way with a touch more effort on your part. You’re probably thinking “lazy and easy are the same, aren’t they?” – not necessarily so.

Lazy is auto pilot – which hey, sometimes I love autopilot. Push notifications, auto updates, automated money making, etc, etc….lazy can be fun as hell.

Easy can be auto pilot, but in order to be auto pilot, there has to be some sort of structure built first – when you think about it, lazy stems from easy, except it’s already put in place.

That’s how many who have learned how to live, have learned it the lazy way. This is especially so in any country where the mass majority intakes large amounts of tube time (television, if that didn’t register with you).

Weeks ago I was at a friend’s working on a car with them, it was the weekend…and as we were driving out of the neighborhood, for the first time I saw a lot of people’s garage doors open – and when I looked inside…what do you think I saw?

Stuff.

Garages filled with stuff.

Here we were, driving through the community and where I thought most garages would look like their intended use, instead I saw tons of stuff, piled on top of each other however neatly people saw fit – and not being used. Forgotten about. Stored away for…whatever reason.

That’s not caring about yourself. That’s not the good kind of selfish. That’s temporary gratification to fulfill short term desires.

The commercials come on, they tell you you need this, and you want that, and you’re missing this, and you’re home wouldn’t be complete without that – and your daughter needs to learn how to be a mom, and your son needs to learn all things rough and tough and mechanical and tactical all before they’ve both even hit puberty. They tell you you’re better off with this credit card, because you can get more things – then months later if you’re still in lazy mode and the bill hasn’t been paid, they say it’s okay that you’re in debt and this and that company can help you – it’s not your fault, but those damn people who enticed you and held an imaginary gun to your head making you sign up for that card and this loan for that boat. They further encourage you – they say even if your financial track record is shot to shit it’s still okay, because they’ll help you finance and consume more irregardless, if you’re tired of that 2012 CLK500 and want the 2013 one now…

….doesn’t all this sound exhausting?

but alas – you’ve learned the auto pilot way of living – what do you care? It hardly took any effort….

Wait though. You do care? Good, that’s what I want from you. To care. About yourself. Be selfish – in a good way. Not the way you’ve been taught.

Plain and simple, the easy way of living is this – exercise your imagination. Creativity. Attitude. Looking inside yourself – not at the TV, not listening to the radio commercials, not reading the junk literature…but looking inside yourself. Taking time out, day by day – even 30 minutes – that’s just 2% of your day – to strike up a conversation with you. Get to know what you like, what you want, what’s fun for you, what you enjoy buying – not what everyone else says that should be liked, should be desired, is fun, and is enjoyable to buy.

There’s two roads – the road less traveled, and the most well known road. Take the less traveled one – because really, when you think about it, that’s your road. Free of pot holes, miles and miles of smooth, unbeaten pavement.

When you begin to teach yourself how to live, how to desire, and how to acquire – then you’re learning how to live – because you won’t be going off any cookie cutter template that’s already been made – but you’ll have your own identity. You’ll be original in your own way. You’ll stand out above the crowd, and you’ll do it for you – not for anyone else. It takes more effort, but the effort is minimal, and in fact, less stressful.

Remember this – the person you see in the mirror – that’s your competition. That’s your audience. That’s your follower. Musings Episode 28: Take The Leap…

So a few weeks ago I touched on hesitation and why it can be detrimental to success…well, once you’re past the hesitation phase – there’s one more thing many people go through but never really discuss.

Procrastination.

Procrastination doesn’t necessarily mean laziness. It can also stem from fear of failure, and perfectionism. Many people when building their road to success can sometimes hit this wall. It’s often procrastination that leads to many people’s downfalls even if they’ve made it over the hesitation hurdle.

Yet in the end hesitation and procrastination end up with the same result – not getting things done in a timely manner or not getting things done at all. This is what you want to avoid – this is what you want to train yourself to eliminate from virtually every aspect of your life. If you’re serious about success – this should be taken into consideration and avoided just as much as hesitation.

Both leave room for missed opportunities.

In various aspects of your life, procrastination can tear you down, and bring you right back to square one. The objective is to remove this kind of habit from your mental framework completely.

I’m a perfectionist. Meaning when I do something – I do it well, and do it to the maximum extent of quality possible. Sometimes, when I get overwhelmed with things, mentally I become a little hazy. The easiest way to get over it I’ve found?

Break everything into steps – focus on the big picture, but break everything into steps.

Remember – it’s about focusing on the end result – not the means to the ends. Focus on that too much and you’ll find yourself lost and out in the cold, wandering (and not in a good way).

I’m not saying dwell on all the little details either. Think of it like this – you get up in the morning. Usually, everyone has their own little routine. Wake up, stretch, make bed, wash face, brush teeth, shower, moisturize, hair, get dressed, etc.

It’s this whole intricate routine you’ve had to learn since childhood, yet you don’t even think about it because you’re on auto pilot almost the entire time….but this whole routine, is still broken into little steps and categories.

Wash face, brush teeth, shower, moisturize – these all take place in the bathroom. Getting dressed, shirts, shoes, etc – all takes place in the wardrobe/bedroom. Eat breakfast, make lunch – all in the kitchen. You see the pattern?

The best way to start is by breaking everything into categories – and then breaking objectives into little groups of 3’s. I’ve always found that by doing things 3 at a time – I blow past my deadlines with flying colors. Many believe multitasking is the way to go – I for one am completely against it. In the short run, it may pay off – but in the long run it can leave a lot of loose ends, a lot of things unfinished, and in actual fact be detrimental to your mental health.

By breaking things into 3’s, you’re doing what I call setting mini milestones. Milestones are much clearer, shorter, and smaller goals toward larger ones. Thinking of it like this, makes the work much easier and the path much more transparent. Getting one of these three things done at a time, one after the other, makes you feel more accomplished thus motivating you to do more.

…and if you’re motivated to do more, you’ll procrastinate less. It’s that simple.

The more you learn how to strategize without putting a strain on your brain, the more confidence you have in yourself. The more confidence you have in yourself, the more you’re willing and ready to dive head first into all your goals. The more willing and ready you are to do that, the more you’ll act on ideas when they come to you – and the more you act on ideas that come to you, the more you sign and seal your name for success in anything you do.

This is how you let go. Put things into action properly with a decent game plan and perseverance, and watch the end goals flourish.

Musings Episode 27: Learning To Let Go…

So I know a couple weeks ago I touched on hate for no reason….I had a hell of a good time on my birthday weekend, and I just wanted to do a follow up musing to elaborate further on how to eliminate people like that from your life…

Energy is what we’re made of. Everything we do, say, and hear is energy. Which is why negative words can cut, and positive ones can sooth. As humans our main goal in life is to take in as many positive experiences as humanly possible, and learn from/eliminate/avoid any negative ones.

Don’t like a movie? Walk out of the theatre. Don’t like the way someone’s talking to you? Say “STOP….no.” and walk off from them, hang up the phone. Don’t like the location you live in, the party you’re at, the sport you’re in, exercise your free will and change it. It’s all possible – we have free will, and a right to everything we desire on this planet….

I know some of you may say this is at times difficult to do – I understand. “But Rego, what if it’s like this in my job, what do I do now?” While it may be trickier in a job setting, learning to let go just takes a little bit of creative thinking.

I’ll give you an example. As you all know, there’s various things I do to make cash – most of it’s web and technology based. Now I’m a pretty chill person – but when I was a kid….I was a bit of a tyrant (side note: pretty sure if anyone I knew from childhood read that, they’d say “a bit” is an understatement…ignore them). I didn’t let anyone, talk to me in any way that was disrespectful – and I spoke my mind when needed. As I got older, I learned to be a bit more charismatic…and less shoot and fire if fired at.

I developed…you know, charm.

…but in developing charm, there’s also something else I had to develop. I started reading Sun Tzu’s Art of War, and realized that sometimes, it’s best to pick and choose your battles – and if going into battle, there’s always more than one way to victory.

Hey I’m not perfect – I still slip up every now and then these days…but I’ve improved. Why…? Because I’ve learned to let some things go – learn to let some people go, and learn to let some methods of thinking go. It’s called the law of absolute abundance. Everyone’s born naturally with this, before we get thrown into the norms of society and taught there’s such a thing as lack.

A lack in money.

A lack in social options.

A lack in opportunities.

A lack in options in general, really.

As we become adults, we often try and battle this…though most just give in to it.

So really, lack is taught….not hardwired. When you get this, it clicks like a light bulb in your head – or a bullet in a barrel – whichever analogy you like best. 😉 Ergo if lack is taught, then abundance can either be re-taught, or destroyed. The goal here is to keep it from getting destroyed.

Abundance mentality can be destroyed in many ways – from failures to certain other negative life experiences or people, it can be shredded down to nothing if someone doesn’t constantly have a reminder that abundance was here first, and always has been. This is what I mean about eliminating negativity as much as possible. This is what I mean about staying away from negative people – and negative experiences. This is what I mean about letting go.

I’d say if there’s one bit I would change in the little snippet above, it’s spend time with genuine people – anyone can be nice. Genuine people are hard to come by.

Getting your mind to constantly think abundantly, is no easy feat. For one it’s like exercising for that killer bod – practice, practice, practice. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Train, train, train. You get the idea – you have to work practically, not just in theory. It’s about changing your self talk, and your mental imagery. I touch on both of these subjects on my official site, and a little bit about learning to inspire yourself as well – imagination is the first step to absolute abundance thinking.

Chase Amante has an article related to this as well – though it may just pertain to relationships and dating, you can take his examples and pointers, and easily apply many of them to other aspects in your life, financially and socially. It’s all about staying in the right crowd, and socializing with the right people – this is the easiest way to train yourself to think abundantly.

I’m sure some of you back in your grade school days – maybe even in university, used to have your own group of friends…they were people you shared the same thinking with, similar ambitions, and probably similar mentalities. Then somewhere along the line, things changed – I’ve known many people to start socializing with their co-workers, and eventually through doing that adapting their mental habits. This can be a very bad thing – I for one never believe in socializing with co-workers – it’s too close to the situation you’re in and can turn bad quickly.

Some people can initially start out as nice, wanting to get to know you. Then turn negative, abrasive, and opposing – these are what I mentioned in my last post, as psychic vampires. People who suck the happiness and good thoughts out of you – after all, misery always wants company…and that, in absolutely no way helps you.

This is where I mean pick your battles. This is what I mean when I say do a little creative thinking. The easiest way? Zone out. Husbands do it all the time (sorry married brethren) – if they don’t feel like listening to something their wife is saying – they miraculously gain the ability to go into a vegetative state in relation to listening.

If you’re not listening, or remotely paying attention – there’s nothing to take in…and if there’s nothing to take in – there’s nothing to let go of….and then it’s problem solved. Like I said – this is not at all easy at first. It takes persistence, dedication, and commitment to your own self talk. When you learn to take care of yourself – you learn to take care of others – and in turn learn to let go. You can’t control other people’s mouths – nor their actions, or thoughts…but you can control your thoughts, your mouth, and your actions.

This isn’t the Gandhi approach at all – so don’t think I’m going there….when it’s time to stand up for yourself, you stand up for yourself and stand 10 feet tall…but sometimes, it’s better to let go of and mentally discard things. Get mad about it, kick, scream, punch, do whatever you need to do – and then find a solution. Letting go is the first part of the solution, and the first action – moving on and creating an answer to the solution are steps two and three.

Take the posts plus the book, study them, and then apply the reasoning and exercises. You’ve gotta do this for at least a month – Every. Single. Day. Come hell or high water – every day. No exceptions. It’s gonna be like crafting that insane body – but the work is worth the pay off…and don’t beat yourself up if you slip up.

The race isn’t over until the last lap. The track is meant to be conquered – not feared.

Musings Episode 26: Go Big or Go Home….

Often, I set certain milestones in my life. One in particular is something I’ve done since I was a child. I’ve always had the philosophy of if you’re gonna do something, you might as well do it right, and do it big – and I still stick with that method of thinking today.

So for this musing, let’s really get down to the nitty gritty of that.

Life is meant to be lived. We’re meant to play hard – and work easy. The new rich know this – and they along with every new generation that’s popping up will soon master this skill to near perfection.

Life is about making an impression on the world – no matter how big or how small – as long as that impression matters to you.

I’m not saying you have to get out there and start a peace movement, become the next Gandhi, or even Genghis Khan….you don’t even have to be famous. Making an impression on the world doesn’t even have to include being known by a lot of people.

There are tons of people who make large differences every day who will never be known by the mass majority – but they still live life large. Let me elaborate on this just to make it crystal clear:

Making an impression, is about living your life the way you want to – and doing it in as big a fashion as possible. It’s not about anyone else. Period.

When we’re teenagers, we all at some point have this “unstoppable” fearlessness in us – there’s no reason why we have to grow out of it. Growing up can sometimes be detrimental – to our imagination, our confidence, and our “can do” attitude.

You’re probably wondering – if I’m saying it’s not about being internationally known – then how on earth do you go big exactly…?

Well it’s fairly simple –

You do all the things you want to do.

without hesitation, and without worry. Dream as big as you can possibly fathom – then dream bigger. Perform as best as you think you can – then perform better. Be as best as you can – then be better.

It’s all very simple…and should be kept simple.

You don’t let anyone hold you back – mentally or literally.

You don’t let anyone tear down your thoughts/ideas – that includes about yourself.

You don’t let anyone tell you what level YOU should be at (i.e. you’re still a baby, you’re not supposed to be this young and have this, how is it possible you got this, how about just doing this/being this way).

When I dream – I dream BIG.

When I get stuff done – I make the end result BIG.

When I make my own style – I make the BEST.

When I set goals for myself – I don’t stop until I reach them.

This is what I mean when I say go big – Either give it your all, or give nothing at all. There is no in between – and if there is – if you are stuck in that grey area – sometimes it’s best to ask yourself:

Do I wanna be a race track success? Or an on the fence loser?

Ask yourself this, and I guarantee I know which one you’ll pick.

Musings Episode 25: Hate For No Reason…

So this weekend’s been kind of up and down for me…

At first I thought it was a joke, but now I’ve realized a person I once talked to, got along with, and really thought was cool people hates me.

Hates me.

….and I’ve no real idea why. I’ve considered just confronting them directly about it – but a few other friends of mine have advised against it. Yet I prefer getting to the bottom of things asap – no bars, no holding back, just straight talk. In situations like these it’s better to just shoot straight, get it over and done with.

Thing is, I don’t think the person has the guts to do it [openly state their hate] to my face. Which annoys me. If someone has the audacity to hate someone – and openly state it to others – but never directly say it to the person the negative energy is directed at – then that person is a coward.

In relation to social matters, I have one main philosophy – hate for no reason, is unwarranted hostility. I don’t do well at all with unwarranted hostility. I find it unnecessary, time consuming, and a bad channel for energy. I tend to give everyone a decent level of respect, and have these mental “respect meters” in my head….if a person starts hating me for no reason though, or unnecessary negative experiences are thrown my way – the meter drops….and in turn so does my opinion of the person.

If it drops below a certain point, I no longer find it necessary for that person – that negative energy, to be in my life. Plain and simple.

This got me wanting to write a bit about why hate for no reason – or hate in general, is something that should really be avoided. Dislike is inevitable at times – especially if there are valid, legitimate reasons…but disliking/hating someone without reasoning, is probably the worst thing you can do to another human being – not to mention yourself.

I’d like to touch on this lightly, as getting dark really isn’t my cup of tea. If I go dark I’ll only do it if the situation really calls for it.

So – hate. Why do people do it…? Why does it exist…? Why is it more frequent than it’s opposite, love?

it’s far easier to hate – but it takes far more energy. Energy that easily turns into negative energy. With enough focus on hate at the end of the day someone could render themselves sick – just by the way their energy has been focused.

Negative energy is a waste of time and effort. While without it we would never know it’s opposite – positive energy – at the same time after getting familiarized with it you’d think people would prefer to avoid it. It can knock you off course, make you less focused, and consume your thoughts.

If you regularly work out, it can actually lower your immune system thus hindering workouts and performance. This is why fitness consultants advise people to try and eliminate as much stress as humanly possible from their day to day lives. Stress, anger, sadness, any kind of negative emotion that releases LDLs and VLDLs (lipoproteins that create “bad” cholesterol) more often, and contribute to excess cholesterol levels increasing. Stress has a tendency to release the “fight or flight” adrenaline used when in a dangerous situation – it pumps out adrenaline when it’s not really called for or needed.

Stress and building up hate inside yourself isn’t the only thing that can actually transmit negative energy or “vibes” your way – but interestingly enough so can someone sitting and thinking on their resentment towards you. It’s what many people, both religious and non-religious, and some cultures recognize as the evil eye.

Remember that saying “if looks could kill?” it also ties in here. This is why some cultures believe if someone is having recent, frequent negative experiences go on in their lives it’s potentially from an outside source – a person or thing that has negative energy directed at them, thus causing chaos and confusion.

This is where silver owned signifying redemption or mercy, and talismans come in. Some also believe that any negative energy can be removed with the burning of sage, etc.

Energy, a lot of times is so overlooked. It’s what people in the 70’s called “vibes” – “you’re killing my vibe man,” really in effect meant one person could be making another feel a certain pulse of unwanted energy.

So when you think about it – this applies across the board.

When people are in romantic relationships, they feel desired, wanted, loved.

When people have good platonic friendships or great family support, they feel appreciated, needed, important.

….and when people are in conflicting situations or go through negative experiences they’re left feeling disrupted, uneasy, confused, on guard.

This is why it’s so important to filter or screen. Some people can, and will suck the life out of you. Chase Amante wrote a great article on this, about “psychic vampires.”

And really that’s what life is all about – going forward, getting better, and eliminating negative experiences.

When you walk down the street, you walk around or step over shit – not go through it. It’s as simple as that – anything negative in your life, you have complete control over whether or not to keep it there.

So let go, and continue making you a better you. Just like I’m doing it’s better to kick the feeling out of your system rather than let it sit there. It just takes a little will power – hence why every single being on this earth was given free will. Humans and only humans – no thing else.

Musings Episode 24: Do it Yourself….

Growing up I was taught independence.

Initiative.

Self sustaining habits.

The works, really.

There was a period where I was home schooled, for a short time – it helped me skip two grades and graduate grade school early. This taught self-discipline and time management, which helps me a lot today.

I know – I’ve been late in posting my musings the past two weeks – but only because I’ve been working on a BIG project that’s going to provide valuable and EPIC content for all my readers.

Those are the only two hints I can give right now – anything else and I’d spoil the surprise.

Now I’m not at all a micro-manager – no way. I believe in telling someone to get something done, then sitting back and watching them execute it. Only if they’re steering off the path in a major way do I intervene.

I like to give people flexibility to try different methods, new things, and alternate solutions. If a person finds a better, more efficient way of carrying out things – I look at that as time leverage.

As long as things are done properly, and in a timely matter, I’m not bothered much by the exact means in which the result was obtained – because there’s always more than one way to an answer or a destination.

What I don’t like is someone taking forever to decide on something then waiting until the last minute to drop the hammer.

This shows indecisiveness, and inability to make a snap decision independently.

There’s two character traits I mostly live my life by – independence, being the stronger of the two – and interdependence – something that I’ve learnt over the years through relationships, both platonic and romantic.

Since I was a kid I really had no problem doing things on my own, speaking out, or learning things on my own. Because of this, I also had no problem getting into the odd scuffle every now and again – if it was warranted.

There are huge benefits in doing things yourself – in certain circumstances. Other times it’s good to allocate things to other people if it pans out to be more time consuming or impractical than it’s really worth. To put it simply, it’s better to “outsource,” when the need calls.

A quick and easy example of this could be getting your car oil changed at a mechanic or doing it yourself.

The pros and cons?

Take it to the mechanic:

Pros – You don’t have to deal with doing it yourself and could be doing other things while your car is geting serviced.

Cons – They can throw any kind of cheap oil filter in there they choose to and they may not use the ideal oil type for the engine…thus inadvertently shortening your vehicle’s engine life. If you don’t have a second car you could be stuck sitting at the mech shop waiting for your vehicle anyway.

Doing it yourself:

Pros – You know what components are going into your car and can choose quality, for practically the same price. You learn a simple service enabling you to choose whether or not you want to outsource the task.

Cons – If you don’t have the tools (ratchet, washers, oil pan) you have to eat the initial investment. It’s a learning curve – whether or not you choose to conquer it is up to you.

Pros and cons of being a Do-it-yourselfer can be spread across any and all spectrums. The thing I like about doing things myself sometimes is the education – you can learn a lot if you just take the initiative and learn the basic structure of how things work.

Learning this could even mean just interacting with people from all aspects of life who specialize in various things – from mechanics to the art of conversation, a simple one-on-one conversation and genuine interest in someone’s talent can teach a person a lot.

Once you gain the insight though, don’t become a dick.

A lot of people extract information, apply it practically, and then forget exactly how they learned it in the first place. Every do-it-yourselfer is really just someone who’s studied their interests and gained insight from multiple sources.

However, the real and final learning process lies in execution, and executing well.

I’m not saying try and do everything yourself – not in the slightest…but every once in a while it’s good to have a go at something and see if you can conquer it.

Make it your business to learn or do something new at least once a week, and you’ll find you’ll develop more skills, gain more knowledge, and have more to talk about when interacting with other people.

I do, and it’s probably the best thing I’ve kept up in my life for a while. 😉

Musings Episode 23: Hesitation…

Alright so as you’ve all noticed I’ve been pretty busy this week….yet within all that busyness it brought to my attention the topic of hesitation.

“Hesitation will kill you.”

Is a phrase I grew up learning. So…slowly as I got older, I consciously trained myself to hesitate less and less. Keep in mind – hesitation and thinking something through before doing it are not the same thing. They’re vastly different and have their own pros and cons – hesitation having more cons. For many, hesitation increases more as they age.

My thoughts on hesitation? Personally, I think it’s inefficient. There are times when it’s beneficial, yes, but for the most part it can hold a lot of people back from their dreams, goals, and going after what they really want…and really, that’s what life is all about – moving towards those things – not being afraid and just dipping your toe in the water.

Hesitation can make you stumble and falter, where thinking things through allows you to look at a situation from all angles. Both can have the same ending, however – if you take too long in thinking something through that’s just the same as hesitation – in fact, you could almost say taking too long to think things through could turn into hesitation – merely because of the fact you may over think, thus creating fear, and in turn hesitation.

Years ago, I was on a warpath with hesitation – I’ve always been driven and ambitious, and never too fond of things that hinder my ability to do more, see more, and be better. So hesitation and I…? We never really saw eye-to-eye. I made up my mind that whatever I did I would:

  • Always look at the situation from all angles
  • After assessing the situation, look at how it contributed to my life
  • If it did indeed have potential to contribute to my life, take the leap and rarely look back

I won’t lie – there were some hiccups where I got burned from this method of thinking – but practice makes perfect, and mistakes are an education. So eventually I learned to assess situations more quickly and accurately, look at the even bigger picture, and then watch as hesitation slowly became non-existent.

What I’m trying to say is, it’s not hesitation you should encourage, because really, that only breeds fear – and fear, my friend, can kill a person. So if fear is really a sense of hesitation, and people as they age become more fearful, what does that mean…?

Is exactly what that means. Which is why I’m stressing it’s better to instead stop, and think. Both with your head, and your gut. Again – this is not hesitation – but situational assessment.

So if you’ve been wanting to launch your own business or website, assess all the angles and find the best path – but don’t hesitate. Things such as “someday I’ll do that,” “someday I’ll travel there,” “someday I’ll learn this,” are just cop-outs and excuses out of fear. That word “someday” is vague and noncommittal to goal setting, which really translates to “I’m too afraid of the possible outcome which is making me hesitant so I’ll probably never do it anyway.”

How will you ever know if something will turn out right/good/successful if you never even try? An outcome from an experience is better than no outcome at all due to lack of trying the experience.

Remember this, and slowly begin to work on yourself. As we age society tries to teach us that we become wiser – yet on the back hand it also tries to teach us that we become more frail, weak, unable to do different things – especially in old age. I think this is bollocks.

Choose when you get older.

Make it your business to make yourself better.

Hesitation is something that whispers in your ear you may not be good enough.

Like I mentioned in one of my previous musings, anything we imagine exists – if it didn’t exists, we wouldn’t be able to imagine it. This is how society has grown so big today – this is how inventions were made. Musings Episode 22: College Life…

So I met up with a friend at a bar last night, and no more than five minutes as I walk in they’re explaining to one of their buddies how they’re taking an oath to quit drinking until December.

…………

Yeah....sure.

Yeah….sure.

Their reason….? They’re going for their Master’s degree. So they’re trying to “straighten up” during school time.

I don’t believe it’s all about just “straightening up” or being super hard on yourself.

I remember my university days….it was epic. Topics I liked. Classes I could take naps in. Great lounge bars I could go out to. Great pre-hangover places I could eat at…which lead to no hangover.

Mind you this was only in the second year.

The first year I was hell bent on studying – I’d done all my drinking/clubbing/partying a good while before I decided to attend university…and that in itself was a real education. So I was burnt out from all that.

I think the only downside to going to uni was the limited time I had available for travel…but even then not so much, because with a smooth tongue and a skill for writing I practically had money thrown at me to travel places for “educational purposes”. Taking up Rhetoric and Logic also played a big part in my high school days as well…

Don’t get me wrong – I learned a lot. I know far more about how businesses run in other countries than I would’ve ever known had I not tried my hand at such opportunities.

There’s a certain thing about college life. It’s a time freeze between not quite growing up and the real world. It’s both haze and fantasy – for those who go straight from high school to college, it seems like ultimate freedom…but for those who take a break from the academic world and then come back to it on a level such as university/college – it’s kind of a joke.

A joke as in, sometimes, more often than not, a person can often find themselves looking around at everyone who’s freaking out, getting drunk, acting out, doing completely moronic things and think “holy shit…is this all people think there is to life…?”

This too, is a joke…and if it were the truth – all my friends in England would’ve failed miserably instead of getting epic careers all over the fucking world. Nice try, extremist chart maker.

When you avoid the what I like to call “trap” of going straight from high school to college/university – some, if not a lot of, things get shifted into perspective.

First, you discover that there’s more to life than trying to fit into a group or become the hottest thing since hot apple pie.

Next, you discover that people outside of a close, concentrated academic environment exist – and guess what…? It’s not all about cliques.

Then, you discover how glad you were that you grew up with a mix of public, private, and homeschooling – because the real world is waaaay different than 12 solid years of being around the same damn people (thank God I dodged that bullet).

Alright, so everyone’s story is different, and maybe that last sentence only applies to a few – but that’s not my point. My point is, college life can teach you a lot about yourself – if you play your cards right.

Rule number 1: It’s not always about drinking.

Rule number 2: It’s not always about getting the top grade.

Rule number 3: It’s not always about following the herd.

Rule number 4: It’s no always about shying away from the herd.

For many, if they’ve never lived on their own before, college is more like a crash course – an easy, fluff version of a crash course, mind you, if mum and dad are still supporting you – but a crash course nonetheless.

How did I spend so much money

I went to university in England…oh, and as a side note – I use college/university interchangeably throughout this whole post – due to the sole reason in the states, college is equivalent to university, BUT university in the UK is not  equivalent to college – yet instead college is a precursor to uni. So it’s merely for the sake of grammatical relation across the board.

Right, so to continue….

I went to university in England – and I remember seeing students wait around for their student loans to come in…I remember the dialogues well – they were too funny not to.

“Aw man…I need my student loans like now…I’m totally skint from this month”

“What happened?”

“All the nights out…I’ve been at The Adelphi almost every night this week, too…plus me and a few mates went up to Blackpool last weekend…..but I’m gonna spend this one a bit better – I need groceries, new shoes, and I’ve gotta get a couple books I’ve not been able to find at the library.”

“Aww, that sucks. I’m in the same spot…and the pressure of my assessment being due right around the corner hasn’t been much help either. So hey – once you do get a top up how about we head over to Roper or Revolution? They’ve got drink specials going on.”

“Definitely, let’s go.”

The best part was when the deposit dates drew nearer, nearly everyone heard these sort of conversations, and when walking down the street you’d see the queue of students at the ATMs on campus around 8 o’ clock at night. I couldn’t help but laugh…not at them, more with them.

I used to be one of those students in that line. Not for the same reasons – not really pressed for cash in the usual way most of them were.

Not going to college right away was a sort of cheat sheet, for me at least…and it can, and should be, for a lot of other people.

For those of you that missed out or are about to miss out on that opportunity, however, let me shoot a few pointers your way….also PLEASE note – these pointers apply to ALL aspects of life…not just college/university. It’s a quick rundown, no more than 3 points, so don’t worry about settling in for a nap.

Managing your money is probably the first thing anyone should learn, no matter what age or what they’re doing, whether it’s schooling or career, business or just being a bum.

Drinking, is not as bad as everyone thinks – if done in moderation. For one, to an extent and with the right balance, it can open up entirely new ways of thinking….just look at all the great writers 😉

Power of moonshine

Anything’s beneficial in moderation. Except exercise – the sky’s the limit with exercise so there’s a benefit all the way. The key with drinking here though is to cut back a little on your nights out to just any old bar, and instead live like the Swedes – host house parties if you’ve got the space…the booze are less and you can use your money on other nights where the places are TOP quality, and nothing less.

Grocery shopping and what not isn’t as hard as many may think. It’s just what you eat that’s key. If you grab a good healthy cookbook, that uses a few consistent ingredients, you’ve got yourself a gold mine – which means more money to stash aside and reinvest, and more money to celebrate with because you picked a great handful of investments. So go ahead…step away from that pizza box and cup of ramen.

Grab a few solid credit cards, do NOT use them to spend stupidly – take your core bills, charge them off those credit cards according to category, and prepare to watch time leverage work in your favour….

just don’t forget to pay the bill, in full, and on time – as mentioned in my Musings Episode 19. Execute this properly and you’ll be rolling in dough.

Lastly, focusing intently on something and stressing out over it gets you nowhere.

Why? Because when you spend time running around focusing on “how is this going to get done, I’ve got this going on and this to do, the deadline’s this, the demands are that, yadda yadda yadda.”

No.

Stop the mental chatter…and focus on what’s good for you. First thing in the morning, get up to complete silence, and meditate. It doesn’t have to involve incense, it doesn’t have to involve a pray room, it doesn’t even have to involve focusing on the things that are priority. It just focuses on what’s good for you. What makes you tick, what makes you think, what makes you driven, and what makes you push forward. What makes your blood boil, what makes life life, for you.

That’s what needs to be focused on. The success will come and the anxiety will deaden, with minimal effort on your part, and a few small, simple solutions.

The thing here is to not lock onto all the issues in life – but lock onto the main things that you know will get you ahead, while having fun….then take those “issues” and try making Limoncello out of them 😉

Once you learn how to do this….

Then you’re in the right direction headed to the right track…and remember….
