Musings Episode 35: Strength Training – It’s Not Just Physical…

So for about 3 weeks I’ve been getting used to this new, rigorous workout that combines strength and cardio for intense muscle development and fat loss – not that the latter’s necessary but hey – never hurts to stay fit right?

i don't exercise to be healthy i exercise to look sexy as fuck naked, Musings Episode 35 Strength Training It's Not Just Physical, mental exercise, mental strength, brain training, mental exercises, brain exercises, brain power, mental toughness, mentally tough, mental strength, how to get mental strength, how to get mental toughness, developing mental strength, motivation to achieve your goals, motivation and mental health, rego's life

…just kidding. Sort of.

Anyway, aside from that I’ve been revamping a section of my official site – it’s mostly the online store side of it, where eventually I’ll be making it one huge place with all my e-commerce ventures neatly in one place. The whiteboard in my office is chock-full of notes, reminders, and milestones – the other one is too.

As a side note, a friend and I are looking to start a new business venture together, but lately he’s been having a bit of a tough time with his girlfriend – younger than him she’s going abroad to study for some years and he wants to make sure he can visit her often, months at a time if he can. He’s been engrossing himself in getting the venture started, you could call it a good way to keep him occupied and his mind off the whole thing. We had a long talk about it this Friday.

This got me thinking – strength training isn’t just a physical thing – besides our exteriors we’ve also gotta train our minds and fine tune our mental thinking. It took me a while to get where I finally am today in terms of thinking, but I’m glad I pushed on and came through. I respect my buddy a lot in the way he’s handling the situation, and I give serious props to him for the way he’s actually going after a solution instead of just giving up.

Often, people start something but have a tendency to give up or not follow through with it if they don’t see immediate results. I think it’s bollocks – if you create or build something – doesn’t matter if it’s business or personal, and you’ve built it to such magnitude, it’s always better to see it through to the end, and during the homestretch remember why you started whenever you feel like quitting.

I use this thinking in business a lot – I’m not one to trade time for dollars but ideas for serious $$$ instead – and when I think up something brilliant, all it takes is a pen and paper and away I go. I’ll structure and build the concept until the end, tweaking as I go along, then get right into action.

It takes practice, learning perseverence, but it’s all worth it. It’s how successful people such as athletes, actors, or financial geniuses learn to become so good at what they do – they understand that it’s a combination of physical AND mental effort, all while learning to let go of mental restraints your brain’s gotten used to….

…oddly enough I published a post on mental practice and awareness for Fitness Fridays last week. Give it a read if you haven’t yet, it’s definitely got some valuable information.

The more you expand on a thought or an idea and actively start growing and accomplishing it, the faster it gets done. At first it’s painful, and draining – a lot of mental energy goes into it if you’re not used to exercising your mind outside of it’s usual routine – your brain is lazy, sometimes it needs a bit of a push…but then so do your muscles when you don’t exercise them at least 3-5 days a week.

The same way you exercise your muscles 5-6 days a week (or 2-3, if you’re starting out) if you did the same thing with your brain, do you have any idea how much you could get accomplished? Yeah – a shit ton.

This is what I mean when I say strength training goes beyond physical. There’s so many sayings out there that reinforce the message:

“When the fear of things staying the same becomes greater than the fear of failing, then you’ll be successful.”
“You have to want it more than you’re afraid of it.”
“When you’re about to quit, remember why you started.”

The list goes on and on man…and really, when you think about it, physical and mental exercise go hand in hand. When people work out, they don’t just get stronger because they lift more weights, do more pull ups, or crank out more clean and presses – it’s their thoughts that keep them going:

“You can do it.”
“Don’t give up now.”
“Last set.”
“Come on, you’ve done better before you can do your best now.”

I say these things to my fitness clients all the time. It’s why some people listen to music, to get that “pump” to steer their mental thinking in the right way – it all starts with the mind. If you believe you can do 100 sit-ups or 20 pull-ups straight off, it’s gonna make it a hell of a lot easier than the guy who thinks he can only do 50 sit-ups and 1 pull-up.

So this week I want you all to get out there and push to be better – don’t dismiss great thoughts or ideas you have – and stop leaving projects undone. Watch how much better you’ll feel when you start acting on an idea or thought and see how motivational it is when you finally finish that project you’ve been lulling over for months.

The minute you start believing in yourself, is the minute you’re unstoppable. It’s the moment when you know no fear, and have no hesitation.

Get out there and be a fucking legend.

For The Weekenders: Welcome to The 305.

I’m feeling…beachy…and a touch flighty. Time to show you some local favorites and a newcomer to the list of the best places to go this weekend.

baru urbano, for the weekenders, welcome to the 305, weekend activities, south florida night life, miami night life, 305 night life

Whether you’re near SoFlo, directly in Miami or not, take note of these places, as they’re something you don’t wanna pass up. Enjoy, and welcome to the 305.

Let’s sort out the flighty bit – ever just wanted to fly round the city but already done it in a helicopter? Yeah…we’ve all been there. Even if you haven’t, I highly recommend checking out Overseas Aero Tours, a Florida Keys Biplane Tour that’s (conveniently) suited for two.

for the weekenders, welcome to the 305, weekend activities,305 activities, overseas aero tours, florida keys activities, rego's life

Think Top Gun…for dates

…and an older plane. Like, 73 years old. War time era. If you’re gonna be flying in anything that old, let it be the Waco UPF-7. Yeah – shit just got real. It seriously beats a movie. Or dinner. Or drinks. Any day. So instead of doing the same old same old and sitting picking from a boring menu, how about get out of the A/C and hit the skies instead. It’s refreshing. It’s new. It’s partially original….and the best part is, they break down the pricing so it’s affordable, too.

Don’t just think this is for the single dating world – if you’ve managed to be hunted and captured (…married.) it’s a great activity to add to the list of “new things I did with my spouse.” If you’re into that. Go for a run across the sky and check out Pigeon Key, or get a little more adventurous and spend more time overlooking the epic sights of Sombrero Light. Pick a day where the weather’s fine and make reservations, right around this time of the year they can get pretty busy. 1940’s style aviators and pilot caps encouraged…add the jacket if you’re feeling particularly “authentic.”

…but let’s say you wanna go for drinks after a long afternoon of flying – well, I know just the place to wind down…recently opened if you’re into things like Colombian food, drinks, and nightlife, then you’ll wanna check out Barú Urbano…it’s like, the go-to for all things aesthetic and, well Colombian.

baru urbano, for the weekenders, welcome to the 305, weekend activities, south florida night life, miami night life, 305 night life

Now with three locations in Doral, Miami, and MidTown, there’s no excuse why you can’t check this place out. I highly recommend booking reservations, whether you’re going there with a date or just casually with friends. The place has various events depending on which bar you decide to hit up (check out Double Cross Thursdays tonight if you can make it), and a menu that’ll leave you coming back for more. If you’ve been hitting up the gym a lot lately I recommend the Barru Parilla – if you weren’t getting your protein before, you will with that dish.

Don’t forget to wash it all down with some quality spirits, and if you feel like being adventurous order up some refajo for a history lesson with your date, or one big toast with your best buds – as for exactly what refajo is well, I’d love to tell you but for now – I’ll let you figure out what it is when you get there (hint: it has to do with beer) 😉

Alright last stop…but listen – we’re heading north this time. More specifically, Ft. Lauderdale. I know – “Broward county? Wtf Why?” you’re probably asking…and I know, it’s not even remotely close to Miami – but hear me out, it’s not that bad actually. Besides – would I ever send you anywhere bad? Of course not – after all, I’ve got my reputation to uphold.

Besides it’s right by the beach – and if you’ve ever been to Ft. Lauderdale, the beach there is their strong point.

That and Hooters.

Hooters by the water is just…grand.

Can’t beat a good wing.

But when you want something a little less shady than Hooters, and wanna grab a bite to eat in your swimwear, have a go at Atlantic Surf Club.

ft. lauderdale activities, atlantic surf club, rego's life, for the weekenders, welcome to the 305, weekend activities, south florida night life

While my favorite thing about this place is the insane view you get while eating…the menu really takes the cake – pun intended. With selections like massive tuna steak burgers, Chicago Dogs, and mouth watering Snapper Filet, you have every right to stuff your face and feel guiltless after.

ft. lauderdale activities, atlantic surf club, rego's life, for the weekenders, welcome to the 305, weekend activities, south florida night life

For dessert, it’s a good idea to load up on their “Adult” shakes & floats – think TGIF but waaaay better service and a wider selection. It’s a nice change up from your standard alcoholic beverage (though I do recommend the Snake Bite), too. While my favorites pretty much consist of above and beyond 50% of the 9 flavors they have, you absolutely cannot afford to pass up these:

  1. Root Beer Float – Fueling my love of bourbon even more, this shakes blends vanilla ice cream, root beer, and bourbon all into one sinfully delicious combo that’s awesome for Root Beer lovers like myself.
  2. Malted Milkshake – What can I say? I’m a fan of the classics…and this is a classic with a twist. Vanilla ice cream, Ovaltine classic malt, amaretto, kahlua, frangelico, and toasted almonds – I’ll take two.
  3. Adult Mudslide – Reminds me of a favorite flavor of mine from Ben & Jerry’s ice cream lineup, Dublin Mudslide. Comes with a swirl of vanilla & chocolate ice cream, Bailey’s and Godiva chocolate, and of course, vodka.

“Failure is success if…

“Failure is success if we learn from it.” – Malcolm Forbes

I try not to look at failure or mistakes as things that were a waste of time – I’m no expert on it, nor am I saying the process is easy….but the less you look at a mistake or failure as being “wrong” the more you’ll see a different way of doing things and actually, the solution becomes a little clearer.

So next time you feel you’ve “failed,” think of it like a video game – if there’s a “retry” button (there always is), allow yourself to get one step closer to the solution.

Musings Episode 34: Laugh a Little…

This past Friday I wasn’t feeling too on the up and up…

…not in the dodgy sense, but I just felt dragged down, burnt out.

burn out light bulb, burnt out, burned out, how to recover from being burned out, how to fix feeling burned out, feeling burnt out, burnt out at work, depression, stress, burnout, burn out, burnt out, burnout symptoms, burnt out at work, burning out, burnt out from work, laugh a little, live life, how to improve your life, improve your life easily, laughing is healthy, ocean, swimming eases stress, live a little, laugh a lot, life isn't about reaching your destination but enjoying the ride

I’ve been working on a new extension of my official site, and the day prior had really given it my all – almost 13 hours straight just getting objectives knocked out one by one. I get into these super charged moments at times.

The next morning I overslept, which had me waking up feeling worse. As a perfectionist, I have a tendency to be a bit hard on myself.

For the rest of the day, I couldn’t really focus. I tried getting my head in gear but it just wasn’t working. Finally, frustrated, I decided to head down to the beach and go for a swim – one problem though. The water was ROLLING…surfers were out, it was close to high tide, and the smallest swells you’d usually be able to wade right through as you walked into the ocean curled and were over my head – I’m not a short person. Heck, there wasn’t really much to wade into – just waves – and not clean sets either.

choppy water ocean, burn out light bulb, burnt out, burned out, how to recover from being burned out, how to fix feeling burned out, feeling burnt out, burnt out at work, depression, stress, burnout, burn out, burnt out, burnout symptoms, burnt out at work, burning out, burnt out from work, laugh a little, live life, how to improve your life, improve your life easily, laughing is healthy, ocean, swimming eases stress, live a little, laugh a lot, life isn't about reaching your destination but enjoying the ride

They were in such quick succession, sometimes one instantly after the other, I got pushed back about twice – remember, I was going for a swim, not surf, so no board to break the swell.

Now I believe that you should never mess with mother nature when you’re pissed off – and that goes double for the ocean…but stubborn as I sometimes am, I decided to go against my own rule, and the third time the water tried to push me back, I ran right into it and dove…right into a sandy rip curl.

Broke past it, only to have another, this time far less sandy one come at me, dove again, and again, and again. Finally got to a point where the swell didn’t curl, then the pattern changed again. So I dove again – slapped a fish (unintentionally), and while I was underwater noticed just how quickly the sand was being disturbed.

The current was strong, and just when I stabilized and was wading in all the turmoil, once the current pulled back, I started to feel it take my feet with it – and this is where it happened….

I started laughing, put my hands behind my head, and literally laid back as it pulled the lower half of my body. So there I was, underwater eyes open, leveled out as if I were just casually laying back in bed. The ocean pulled me under, and then like those wet roller coaster rides I had a rip curl thrown into my face with such force and speed it was one of the loudest things I’d heard in a while.

Shortly after I got pushed back on the sand, and as I got up to leave the water, found myself laughing harder than I had all week. That force of water beating down on my head knocked me back to my senses. Mother nature literally slapped me silly.

I picked up my towel and hit the shower, drove home. All the tension was gone. All the stress. The classic thoughts of “push harder” every perfectionist feels at some point. That pounding feeling at my forehead, and the stiffness in the back of my neck…and there I was, driving home in complete silence, smiling, and laughing to myself.

Usually, hitting up the beach just clears my head, get my thoughts in line…but that day – it reminded me that there are bigger things out there going on than stressing out – humans are just one small speck of this world, even if they hold responsibility to take care of it.

The ocean still moves.

Birds still fly.

Grass still grows and fruit still ripens.

Even if people get stuck in their own frustrations, the show must go on, and it does. Without thinking twice. People create their own problems, and their own paradise. The solution is going through the menu and ordering up which one you want.

menu of life, burn out light bulb, burnt out, burned out, how to recover from being burned out, how to fix feeling burned out, feeling burnt out, burnt out at work, depression, stress, burnout, burn out, burnt out, burnout symptoms, burnt out at work, burning out, burnt out from work, laugh a little, live life, how to improve your life, improve your life easily, laughing is healthy, ocean, swimming eases stress, live a little, laugh a lot, life isn't about reaching your destination but enjoying the ride

You decide whether or not to just let go. To step away from a problem and come back to it. I’m not saying shirk responsibility, but sometimes when you just take a breather, you end up being more productive and creative. People who take frequent breaks between stressful tasks and try different things than the “norm,” actually achieve their goal and come out successfully, much easier than those who don’t.

So laugh a little. When things get stressful, it always helps to laugh a little. If you can’t figure out how to laugh then and there, do something stupid or simple, something that’ll knock the frustration right out of you, and laugh a little.

Sometimes, the easiest way to laugh is embarrass yourself.

Show a little humility. Dance in public. Be a little light-heartedly sarcastic. Hit up a park and run towards the swings like you’re 5 again (I can honestly say I’ve done this more than enough times)…

…and watch the stress fade.

Laugh a little.

It’ll keep you on the right track…

…and as always…

For The Weekenders: Hyde and Seek, Ice Driving, Chalet Igloo

I’m thinking this winter I hit up a 4 season climate.

chalet igloo

  1. Because I love layering.
  2. Because I look good in layered clothing…and
  3. Well…pretty much the same thing as 2.

Aside from that – I really dig cold climates because of all the great things you can do with ice…and snow. But like any good way to start something off, I like to hit up a good lounge. Read on and pay attention carefully – because for the next 5-7 minutes you’re gonna find out the best places to be when it gets cold outside and you’ve run out of things to do with all that snow – or heat, if you’re somewhere that somehow still has 87 degree days.

For starters, let’s get a bit luxurious – and, exclusive, for that matter. You deserve it…and because of that, I invite you to come and check out Hyde Lounge – the epitome, of exclusivity. The minute you step into this place, you feel like it was made for you and you only. This isn’t like your ordinary night life scene – no sir/ma’am. The place screams luxury and sophistication, and quite frankly will make you wonder what the hell you’ve been missing out on all this time.

hyde lounge staples center, hyde lounge, hyde & seek, rego's life

Hyde Lounge is home to elite profile personalities including athletes and artists – so don’t be surprised if you rub elbows with someone from your favorite basketball team – just don’t have a fan girl/boy freak out moment. That’s creepy. Nobody likes creepy. If you must, maintain composure, excuse yourself from their presence, make your way to the bathroom or a nearby corner, and then squeal like the little 4 year old girl you are (yes, that includes the bros – don’t lie, you’ve done it) in/over there.

This is a great place to bring a date or significant other, or some friends who have a touch of class and aren’t afraid to show it. Besides their L.A. location, they’ve also got lounges set up in Miami and Vegas, baby…and you better believe each and every one of them is set up with rich leather interiors, genuine dark wood, one of a kind luxury decor, and nothing but high quality liquor with your name on it. Plus a great food menu *nods* can’t forget the great food.

hyde lounge staples center, hyde lounge

Be sure to book a reservation – this isn’t your typical walk in place.

Alright I know…that last one wasn’t even remotely located near any snow…but these next two are. I’ve just gotta say first – you know what I like more than lounges? Cars – and driving cars. On ice. As in, ice driving. in Sweden. Yes, Sweden. Here – here’s a paper bag – that should ease your excitement attack.

kall auto lodge, ice driving in sweden

WOO.

If you ever wanted to fulfill your Gran Turismo dreams – now’s your chance. Here’s a hankie – go ahead and wipe that tear of joy.

It all starts with Kall Auto Lodge. First – you get legit driver training on a frozen over lake, using Porsche 911s and other high powered, beautifully crafted cars…Second – while they “say” the whole point of the course is to make you a better, safer, more responsible and well versed driver – I’m just gonna say it straight to you and clarify that the “off the record” reason is to turn you into more of a badass.

True story.

Except the music will be way better and less cheesy. I promise.

So what kind of accommodation comes with learning to drive like a legend in the snow? Oh you know, nothing too spectacular – except epic views of local lakes and mountains and decor so carefully selected in the first half hour or so of being in your room you’ll find yourself wanting to live there.

kalla auto lodge, for the weekenders, rego's life

If you have a spare somebody laying around, like a winter fling or some close buddies – now’s the time to invite them. Kall Auto Lodge is just one of those places where you want to “bro it up” and make it a romantic getaway all at the same time. All in separate settings, of course. They’ve got everything from a sauna and full spa – not to mention a jacuzzi located on the balcony so you can soak up even more of the view.

If you get tired of zooming around on ice in a Porsche (like that’s even possible to become tired of), they also have mountain walks to take in some of that fresh, clean Swedish air. Work up enough of an appetite to hit up their restaurant and prepare to have the meal of your life with all ingredients sourced from a local farmers co-op – meaning nothing but clean eating for you while getting a taste of the local cuisine. Sweden – soon to be known as your new happy place.

But let’s say you wanna slip away from your friends – and instead get to some place more…subtle. More secluded. More cozy.

chalet igloo, the boutique chalet company, rego's life

Request granted, and cozy you’ll get at the Chalet Igloo. It’s cozy. It’s sexy. It’s unique. It’s almost like we’re describing me – or y’know, you…but let’s hold off on the narcissism for a bit. There’s still a lot to be told. First – why pick the Chalet Igloo over any other Chalet? I’m really glad you asked…

Answer me this – if you were told there was a master suite that looked fit for a king with cowhide rugs, flat screen TVs, and breathtaking mountain views, which you could wake up to in the morning and see from your super-king sized bed – would you pick some other run of the mill chalet? What if it had a soaking tub you could retreat to after a nice hot shower post-ski/snowboarding with a certain someone while they give you a shoulder rub because you ran into that tree while being too busy staring at them? Yeah – I thought so. Chalet Igloo for the win.

chalet igloo, rego's life, for the weekenders

After a long hot soak I personally from there would shuffle into the living area with a nice brandy and sit myself down in front of a roaring log fire, drink in one hand, book in the other…and momentarily stare out at the views up the Ardoisiere valley to Avoriaz and across Morzine to the Roc d’Enfer. If you’re not one for literature – toss the book, keep the brandy, and engage in interesting conversation with the one you came with while listening to some choice music.

If you get bored of brandy – there’s always wine. Lots of it…and if there’s a wine you want but they don’t have – don’t go running to get your snow boots on – that’s why you have a little regime of butlers running around – they’ll find it for you…and when you get tired of boozing and schmoozing, just remember there’s a 12 seater cinema area not too far off in the Chalet with a private bar – so after the 4th glass, watch that 3D movie get a little more real.

I love France.

Stay awesome ;).

Musings Episode 33: Take it Easy…

This past weekend I’ve been mainly focusing on one thing and one thing only – taking it easy, relaxing, and just stepping away from it all.

The thing about being an entrepreneur is, sometimes you can make your own self a little loopy. Driven by your own passions and desires, your thirst for success can be so bad you want it just as bad as you wanna breathe. It can put you in a real state, often for the better, sometimes not so much.

when you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe then you'll be successful

95% of the time this is a great tool to utilize. The other 5% it can try and drown you.

So once again, like last weekend, this morning I get up around 6:45/7:00 a.m. and find myself up an hour early – guess I still haven’t gotten used to the hour fallback. Anyway, soaking in the quietness on a Sunday, eventually I make my way to the den and pop on Netflix. Since recently seeing Iron Man 3 I was up for watching some more of Robert Downey Jr.‘s acting, and stumbled across this one movie from the early 1990’s called “Heart and Souls.”

take it easy, when you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe then you'll be successful, heart and souls, success quotes, how to succeed, fear of failure, fear of trying, robert downey jr., heart and souls (1993), how to achieve success, how to become successful, No offense Harrison But you died a failure because you never tried

Long story short it’s a good film, I suggest you check it out. It starts out in the beginning showing 4 people’s lives who are all tied to this one kid being born into the world (Downey Jr.) while they all end up dying at the same time.

There’s this one line in the film that really grabs my attention, so I thought I’d share it with you all. It’s the part where Harrison is arguing with Thomas about stage fright. Thomas delivers the knockout “punch” of a phrase that finally gets Harrison to buck up and be a man – even if he’s a dead man:

Harrison Winslow: Who came up with this ridiculous concept anyway? Resolve your entire life in one bold stroke? What if I fail? And I will. I’ll fail. I’m telling you. I always fail. Then my whole life will be a complete failure.

Thomas Reilly: No offense, Harrison. But you died a failure because you never tried.

That last bit – right there. Harrison died a failure because he never tried.

roberty downey jr heart and sould national anthem

Instead he worked himself into such a frenzy of nerves everytime he was about to try, the guy literally talked himself out of trying at all.

every accomplishment starts with the decision to try

This is what people have a tendency of doing every day, especially when it comes to the biggest things that count in life.

When it comes to starting a new business, people freak out and think of all the “what if’s” of failure, instead of all the different successes.

If a guy likes a girl and he wants to talk to her his own thoughts stop him because he’s too busy thinking of all the different ways she can reject him – instead of all the different ways she could actually accept him.

A girl who won’t go to the gym because she thinks everyone there will only make fun of her because of her size, instead of just saying “screw everyone else” and doing it for herself, and herself alone.

People continue this over and over again and never once think to learn from the past and break the cycle.

learn from the past, take it easy, when you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe then you'll be successful, heart and souls, success quotes, how to succeed, fear of failure, fear of trying, robert downey jr., heart and souls (1993), how to achieve success, how to become successful, No offense Harrison But you died a failure because you never tried

If you never try, you’ll never know…and if you never know, you never grow. If you can take the time out to handle a big project for your boss, or buckle down when it comes to your family, wife/husband or kids, you can do the same when it comes to yourself.

The key is just giving yourself a good push.

Instead of asking yourself about “what could go wrong,” instead, ask yourself these four questions:

What would happen if you did?

What would happen if you didn’t?

What wouldn’t happen if you did?

What wouldn’t happen if you didn’t?

you cannot afford to live in potential for the rest of your life eric thomas

So for an easy example:

What would happen if you did go to the gym?

What would happen if you didn’t go to the gym?

What wouldn’t happen if you did go to the gym?

What wouldn’t happen if you didn’t go to the gym?

Asking yourself these 4 questions is a good way to push out fear, and take it easy on yourself by not over thinking things. I’ll be expanding on this further tomorrow in my “Make it Mondays” post on my official website. Be sure to drop by and have a look. All it takes is a little bit of practice, every day.

take it easy, when you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe then you'll be successful, heart and souls, success quotes, how to succeed, fear of failure, fear of trying, robert downey jr., heart and souls (1993), how to achieve success, how to become successful, No offense Harrison But you died a failure because you never tried, What you habitualy think largely determind what you will ultimately become bruce lee pictures

For now, this is what I want you to do:

Take a pen and paper, and think up one thing you’ve had on your mind and have thought about doing but have been too fearful. Take that thought, and ask yourself the four questions above:

What would happen if you did?

What would happen if you didn’t?

What wouldn’t happen if you did?

What wouldn’t happen if you didn’t?

I’m curious to know your answers so after, go ahead and comment below. There’s a really great post on this by Niurka as well, which you can check out after you’re done commenting here.

For The Weekenders: Sorry for Party Rockin’.

Why Hello There.

You’re just in time. Why? Well, if you’ve been one of my dedicated readers for a while and you’ve been keeping count, you’ll realize that this is (drum roll please)…

My 100th Post.

rego's life, sorry for party rocking, for the weekenders, rego's life official site, rego's life personal blog

To top it off – it just so happened to fall on one of my “For The Weekenders” post days, too.

So I figure if I’m gonna write a great weekend activities list, I might as well do it big – and this is where I ask myself….

How would I celebrate my 100th post? You’re about to find out…enjoy.

Let’s start off with a big splash. Literally. In the ocean. On a surfboard.

heli-surfing in new zealand, heli surfing newzealand, rego's life, sorry for party rockin, lmfao album, sorry for party rocking, lmfao party rock

With a helicopter.

In New Zealand. Yeah – I’m not kidding. If you’re up for the ultimate weekend with your bros (or girls) and a big water enthusiast, this is the thing to be doing this weekend. Why? Well, one – the obvious reason, you get to surf via helicopter. If you can’t understand the awesomeness of that – then you’re just dying for a slap.

The second best reason to go heli-surfing in New Zealand? It’s a 10 day excuse to pack up and leave town if you’ve been getting the itch to travel or just want an excuse to go somewhere and do something extreme. I know in a previous For The Weekenders I talked about heli-golfing – but this is a whole new level. So skip the road trips, pack your bags and your best board, and head over to New Zealand ASAP. In case you’re wondering where on earth you’ll stay, no worries, that’s been sorted too. Make your way to The Spire Hotel in Queenstown and check-in to be escorted to your suite, filled with every imaginable comfort you can fathom.

Don’t forget to hit up your private terrace to eat breakfast – what’d you think – you were gonna have to eat with complete strangers??? Pfft…

Once you’re rested up and ready to go, from there it’s simply meeting up with your pilot and flying over glaciers, waterfalls, and rain forest for a seemingly never ending quest for the perfect barrels…and we all know what that means – escaping the crowds, isolated wave breaks, and exclusive access to the cleanest barrels you’ve ever seen. If anytime within those 10 days you get bored (or just wanna mix things up for the sake of variety), there’s always cave tubing or bungee jumping – whatever floats your boat. If you didn’t have much reason to exercise bragging rights before – well now you do.

Yeah. Thank me later.

Let’s forget about New Zealand for a minute. I know, that was insanely epic but turn your attention to the Czech Republic – as in Prague – as in your very own personal suite. The only suite. In the entire hotel. In fact, that is the hotel.

rego's life, one room hotel tower park prague, sorry for party rockin, lmfao album, for the weekenders

Why would you wanna stay in a hotel that has only one room? Well, answer me this:

How many hotels do you know of that are atop the 700-foot Žižkov TV tower in Prague? Go ahead – let that sink in for a minute. I’ll wait while you think.

That’s right. Except this one – zero. None. Which is exactly what makes it such an epic experience. Plus the killer view *nods* nobody’s ever complained about the view.

rego's life, one room hotel tower park prague, sorry for party rockin, lmfao album, for the weekenders

Do you see it…? Here use these binoculars – that’s me waving.

The room is packed with things your regular five star hotel just doesn’t have, or didn’t think to have. That’s okay though – let’s not give them a bad rap – after all, this claims itself as a six star hotel, with a bose sound system, horse hair stuffed bed worth more than 5 generations of middle class income, luxurious mini-bar, and like I can’t keep saying enough, a bird’s eye view of the city where you’re the only one up there. Ever been to a hotel and wished you had it all to yourself, and there were no other rooms beside, above, below, or opposite you? Wish. Granted. Reach out and grab it at One Room Hotel in Prague.

Lucky you.

Alright I know you’re just itching to book your flight by now and make your reservations, but just hang on – I’ve got one more for the list…and it has to do with mouthwash blue (yes, I really did just say it) waters and your own private island. Where is this paradise, you ask? The Bahamas.

Royal Island via Cuvée Escapes Royal Island, Bahamas, rego's life, for the weekenders, royal island bahamas, sorry for party rockin

What’s better than 430 acres of palm tree embellished paradise? A 430 acre palm tree embellished paradise all to yourself. Friends optional. Date you’re trying to impress a must. I’d say bring some friends, too though – it’s a big island. You can’t possibly use all five beachfront villas, a little army of personal chefs and butlers, full service spa, and small fleet of jet skis by yourself. That’s just silly.

So make a party out of it, the villas are insane, the views even better – the more the merrier – and when you’re ready to retire to your quarters alone (or with company) you can more than easily do so. Just don’t be a dick – you’ve still gotta respect the rules of the island, and any illegal shenanigans are highly discouraged – yeah, try not to get kicked out like that last time when you were banned from France. Indefinitely.

Royal Island via Cuvée Escapes Royal Island, Bahamas, rego's life, for the weekenders, royal island bahamas, sorry for party rockin

Just…don’t screw it up, okay? Or I will find you. After all – I referred you – I wanna be allowed back here.

Either way, just be prepared for plenty of fun in the sun – it’ll be a nice wind down from all the heli-surfing – and partying in Prague where you were chased after by the police because you thought it’d be a good idea to knick a sign from one of the local bars when you were 9 drinks in. Oh and one more thing – if nostalgia calls – be sure to have a fitting song to fix the feeling quickly – Kokomo always does the trick.

To all my readers – thanks for sticking with me until my 100th post – there will be many more to come, and there’s plenty more on my official site. Until then, as always…

Stay awesome. 😉

“To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift.” – Steve Prefontaine

If you’re going to do anything for yourself, do it with 100% effort – and nothing less. Once you start doing it with 100% effort – do it with even more. Your talents were given to you for a reason – to utilize them to their maximum ability. At the same time – when using those talents don’t let anyone take advantage of you – your skills have value – put a good number on them. You’re worth it. 😉

Musings Episode 32: Because Really, Life’s Just One Big Playground…

So this morning I got up an hour early because of my wrist watch and completely forgot it’s daylight savings time.

Instead of going back to bed, I decide to head out to the den and watch a movie – sorting through the stack I come across both a childhood and present day favorite – Big (1988). Oh man. It’s been ages.

big tom hanks, big movie, big 1988, tom hanks big movie, rego's life, musings episode 32 because really life's just one big playground

There’s one in particular scene towards the end of the film that really grabs my attention. Right when Josh is just getting accustomed to being an adult and Billy storms into his office:

Josh: Will you please leave? I got a deadline to meet. Gosh.
Billy: Who the fuck do you think you are ?
Josh: HEY!
Billy: You’re Josh Baskin, remember? You broke your arm on my roof! You hid in MY basement when Robert Dyson was about to rip your head off!
Josh: You don’t get it, do you? This is important!
Billy: I’m your best friend. What’s more important than that, huh?
[Turns to leave]
Billy: And I’m three months older than you are, ASSHOLE!

If any of you remember this scene, you can understand why Billy was angry. Not so much at Josh’s actions, but what he started to become. He lost touch – took his eye off the ball.

keep your eye on the ball, musings episode 32 because really life's just one big playground

In becoming an adult, Josh was also losing sight of what life is really all about. Really, when you think about it – this happens to a lot of people as they get older.

There’s nothing wrong with responsibility – absolutely not…but with that responsibility, sometimes you can forget about the other part of life – the stress free, have a laugh part of life.

I remember when I used to work in the Forex industry doing currency exchange – the team I was on knew how to party, but at the same time they could be some real cut throat bastards – you really come to know a man when you get some alcohol in ’em.

Anyway – there was this one guy, who was practically like a brother from another mother – and pretty much the one person in the group who made the most sense when he talked, inebriated or not. If there was one piece of advice and wisdom he gave me that outweighed everything else he ever said, it was this:

Listen Rego – this business can make you crazy – the pressure, the timing, the politics, the stakes. This group, this team you’re on can make you crazy, too – they’re one group of shit talking bastards. But at the end of the day, for you and you only, you have to do one thing – the minute you step foot outside the office, the minute you make it home and close your front door:

This company, these guys, this market, doesn’t exist. The minute you’re home – the only thing that exists is the life you’re living, outside of this job – outside of making money. Don’t ever speak of work if you’re not in the building. Ever – separate work from home like it’s religion from politics.

This has stuck with me ever since I heard it more than 5 years ago, and it’s something I’ll never forget.

it takes forever to find yourself but it only takes one second to forget who your are, it takes forever to find yourself, musings episode 32 because really life's just one big playground

What happens is, people get so caught up in their job, in their work, and not in a good way. If you have a business that you love, sure, that’s positive. But the minute your work starts to consume your life, your time, in a negative way, to the point you lose sight of the meaning in your life – it’s time you stop yourself, and re-evaluate. What is Rego’s Life all about? Success. Freedom. Lifestyle. Fun. Travel. Fun. Laser focus. FUN. Adjusting your thinking. Getting to know yourself. Getting to know your desires. Never losing sight. Never getting caught up in the rat race. Realizing, and acknowledging what matters. Making it count.

This is why Billy got pissed at Josh – he forgot about life – and who and what mattered.

Life’s just one big playground.

I’m a big kid at heart. If you met me in the street however – hell who knows what you’d think. Some people call me serious. Some people call me chill. I’ve even been called “suave” a handful of times (not to toot my own horn, of course). Then others call me funny – others borderline narcissistic…and you know that’s okay – I’m fine with that. But really, I’m just one big kid at heart.

If you ever visited my place, in one room you’d see office stuff, some free weights, etc, etc. Then in another you’d see video games, snowboards/skateboards, marshmallow guns, footballs (Man Utd for the win), board games, etc, etc.

Life’s just one big playground…and a lot of times, people forget that the minute they grow up.

In my opinion, growing up isn’t just about age – fuck that. Growing up is based on life experiences, and how you choose to mold yourself after encountering said experiences. Me? I’ve learned to be selectively mature – selectively grown up.

I’ll be completely serious and mature about business, money, relationships, and responsibilities – but catch me outside of that setting and you’ll discover a completely different person – from taking extravagant trips abroad, to playing frisbee in a park, loyalty to friends and being reasonable and opinionated – I’ve come to learn life is all about doing what makes you happy – what makes life worth living.

That’s how you make your stamp on the world. Remembering the things that matter. Really thinking about your actions. Laser like focus.

focus, alex pettyfer, tom hanks big, how to live life, life improvements, life is one big playground, musings episode 32 because really life's just one big playground

I understand completely this can vary from person to person, but the main thing here to understand is this – life isn’t about bills. It isn’t about climbing the corporate ladder. It’s not about getting that company car, or that corner office overlooking the lake. It’s about discovering yourself, discovering what makes you happy, and at the same time still holding onto and remembering that childhood optimism and fearlessness that is slowly extracted from us the more we conform to societal norms.

So here’s where I ask you the big three:

What is life about, to you?
What do you want out of life?
What makes life worth living?
