Lately fitness wise I’ve been getting ready for a bulking season (lost a LOT of gains due to stress) – I’m naturally slender and have always been athletic, so bulking during summer season doesn’t really hurt me in the slightest.
So all this week it’s been a grand tour of the pure deliciousness one would call food…and my God has it been delicious. When you really think about it, eating food is an actual chore, just like bathing daily or brushing your teeth – but mother of God did nature make it an enjoyable one. Enjoy.
For The Weekenders: Skydiving Sandwiches, Lobster Shacks, Late Night Wings…
Just imagine for a second if eating had to be done without any enjoyment? No flavors? No aromas? It’d be pretty….boring. But alas, this is exactly why it wasn’t made so – three times a day of that would make life hellish.
So just a heads up to everyone – although fitness is discussed quite a lot over at the official site, don’t forget that eating clean doesn’t mean you have to eat bland – and on cheat days, don’t ever forget to ENJOY the food you eat to maximum extent.
Let’s start with North River Lobster Co. – in short, these guys are AWESOME. Intended to be an escape from Manhattan’s hustle and bustle, North River Lobster Company accomplishes exactly that. In saying that, this isn’t your typical sit down and order restaurant. The food is beyond comparison.
For starters, it’s on a boat – scratch that, it is a boat. A boat that offers up little adventures by sailing around the Hudson. How many lobster shacks do you know that offer up that?
Secondly, the menus are dotted around the boat, on the pier, and online (aaaaand click here.)…
….once you’ve decided on what to eat, you hit up the bartender and order. Like in tennis, a little runner delivers your food and presto – time to eat. While keeping their menu simple and to the point, lobster isn’t the only thing they offer – but I do recommend checking out their lobster roll.
Or if you’re a big eater and want seconds, grab a North River Burger, Grilled Chicken Sandwich (don’t let the plain name fool you), or Shrimp Po Boy. Wash it all down with one of their many alcoholic (or non-alcoholic) drinks and top it off with a slice of New York Style Cheesecake (obviously).
But let’s say you’re really not a seafood fan in general or just want something a little more home-style – then I’d say if you’re in Melbourne and up to party, take a gamble and check out Jafflechute’s party happening on July 19th of this year (2014).
I know, you’re probably wondering – what the f*ck is a Jafflechute? Well, if you got the awesome opportunity to try them while they were in New York, a Jafflechute, my friend, is (literally) a heaven-sent grilled cheese (with some possible suprises thrown in) sandwich delivered via parachute to an appointed location.
So here’s the formal description of how it works:
You order up a sandwich (with a twist) of your choice, pay them via PayPal, then like a Mission Impossible agent they give you a location and a time. Wherever X marks the spot is where your lunch will be delivered (somehow, this reminds me of anvils and Looney Tunes.).
So you stand there, gazing into the blue sky (jafflechutes are only delivered during good weather – naturally) until finally you see it – a neatly packaged, carefully thought out little parachute heading your way –
all it takes now is a bit of hand-eye coordination on your part to allow the gently falling parcel of food to fall into your palms. Look up, smile, wave, and carry on about your day as innocent bystanders look on in awe wondering what on earth just happened – and how it can happen to them.
Seriously.
If you’re in Australia go to the party.
Book your tickets.
Now.
It’s alright though if you’re not the traveling type – or you just can’t be bothered with a long ass flight. Maybe you just want a great place to go after drinks with friends.
For more drinks with more friends.
And food. Obviously food. You’ve gotta sober up at some point.
Jify’s has got you covered.
This is the go to place not just for late night, but all things food related. A Caribbean themed restaurant with a Caribbean roots founder, you can only expect boundless explosion after explosion of flavour from this place.
For late night eats and drinks, order up some Jerk Wings and Plantain Chips with Mango Guacamole, then pair it with an Old Friend – an Old Friend being a drink, comprising of Cachaça, Ginger, Tamarind Extract, and Angostura Bitters.
(Or, if you’ve still got that “old friend’s” number, don’t hesitate to call him or her, either…*wink*)
If that doesn’t suit your fancy they’ve got plenty of other options as well, so don’t sweat it.
I’d also highly recommend you go there for the music as well, over at Cameo Gallery conveniently placed right behind the place. Tickets are priced reasonably and offer up a great selection, like “The Future Scares Me,” “TUTU,” and Tamara Davidson tonight at 8:00 P.M.
If that’s not enough to get you to come check out Jify’s I don’t know what is (also, you’re missing out on a very epic part of life).
As always…
Stay awesome.
